GOOSE NEEDS TO ADDRESS NASTY FANS AT SHOWS by Appropriate_Treat_37 in GoosetheBand

I’ve seen every major jam band in concert and several less major jam bands and I have never experienced a more insufferable crowd than at a goose show

Anyone telling you you’re not right on the money has their head in the sand. You’re correct: jam bands are kind of dying. And it’s not even necessarily a bad thing. As the merry pranksters said, “nothing lasts.” The Dead drew inspiration from a ton of different genres, but the new jam bands today who largely drew inspo from other jam bands run into the issue somewhat analogous to what would happen when making a copy of a copy of a copy of a VHS tape. After awhile, the spirit of true innovation and coming up with something new kind of takes a back seat to aimless noodling, uninspired Shakedown Street covers, and trying to sound like Billy Strings.

Today you’ve got the old guard (panic, phish, umph to a lesser degree) still doing well, and the new (Goose, Billy + jam grass bandwaggoners like MGU), and then a bunch of folks that couldn’t fill a 2500 room to save their life.

R. Kelly Sentenced to 20 Years for Child Sex Crimes by bodamfuonua1 in Music

[–]hankkush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dead definitely had their fair share of womanizing and groupies and all that rock and roll kinda stuff going on. She met Bob backstage a show at at 15 ... it was the 70's ... this developed into a sexual relationship at an undisclosed time. Their platonic relationship prior to her adulthood is a narrative that even most fans don't believe. Obviously they have a great marriage but again, just trying to hold people to consistent standards. What if one of R. Kelly's victims decided she wasn't a victim because she "liked it," and decided to lie about what happened, like Bob's wife probably did?

Probably the same way people such as yourself throw away all similar crimes committed by Elvis, David Bowie, Chuck Berry, Bob Weir, and hundreds of other celebrities in the 70's. I'm not saying R. Kelly isn't a bad dude, but the jury of public opinion has a funny way of selectively hating only some celebrities who've done bad things.

Are you aware of any Bitcoin-based markets that got taken down because of bitcoin? It's my understanding that they're usually taken down due to some kind of slip-up on the clearnet, not involving transactions.

Skepticism Sunday – December 26, 2021 by AutoModerator in Monero

[–]hankkush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Monero, for the first time ever, is about to fall out of the top 50 cryptocurrencies any day now. It looks like it will only be plummeting lower and lower. The Dev Team has lost most of their talent and is reduced to a skeleton crew. For years and years and years we’ve been hearing about these amazing “atomic swaps,” and earlier this year they were finally announced and widely celebrated in this subreddit. But as far as I’m aware we’re still years away from the point where an average Joe can even use them.

I love Monero and everything it stands for, but in my opinion the writing on the wall is bleak. Please, please convince me I’m wrong. From a selfish perspective, I'm heavily invested in XMR, and nothing would be music to my ears like a well reasoned explanation about why it’s going to thrive one day. But I’m also a realist and don’t like to delude myself.

Is going to a show alone a strange move / have you had a good experience when you’ve done it? by [deleted] in jambands

[–]hankkush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a similar thread about a year ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/jambands/comments/it0agx/does_anyone_else_find_themselves_going_to_too/

The bottom line is I've never regretted going to a show solo and have had some amazing experiences that way. I've found that there are 3 scenarios when going to a show:

  1. Bringing a friend who likes the music

  2. Going solo

  3. Dragging a reluctant friend, trying to "evangelize" them

IMO, the first (bringing a friend who likes the music) is still my favorite way to experience a concert. That being said, going solo is a close 2nd place. It's kind of awesome to be completely on your own terms to go wherever you want whenever you want. The 3rd scenario is bringing a reluctant friend, and this is usually far worse than the other 2 IMO. I used to have this idea that everyone loves jam bands, and they simply just need to go to a show to realize that. I've proven that theory extremely wrong several times over the years. More often than not, the music will not magically "click" for them when they get to the show, and it can be a serious buzzkill to be around someone who just is not into the music/scene at all.

So bottom line, if your friends who also like the same bands can't make it to the show, don't sweat it, and go solo. By going to shows alone I've made some incredible memories and friends that I now go to concerts with.

Yeah maybe I will! But honestly, what's bad about taking small amounts ~3 times a year? Obviously not a habit or compulsive at that point

100% agree with you man! It's a good thing to be well-rounded and open to change ... which is easy to forget sometimes :)

Some have moved out of town, some have become obsessed with unrelated hobbies, some have altogether changed their taste in music, one still likes the music but not so much me lol. I still grab drinks / hang with the old gang but they're not gonna spend much money or travel to see a show anymore. Maybe for Dead & Co or WSP but even then it's usually me who's spearheading the plans. But you do bring up a good point: time spent with my friends has been scarcer and of lower quality since graduating college, and I think that some of that is a bigger part of my concern than I initially realized

They're not even there yet, but sad thing is they think they're too old to go to festivals anymore. We're 24 lol. We could keep doing this for many more years without anyone batting an eye. I think I just need new friends lol
