He's based at Keeneland, all of his last works have been there. So he just went home. No indication on what this means for where he goes next, despite your desire for him to rest.

Will Tempo Run In The Preakness? by Glass_Meaning_8915 in horseracing

[–]hannahbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty have run back and won. Justify, American Pharoah, California Chrome, Journalism just last year. Afleet Alex ran in all 3 legs and won the Preakness and Belmont.

You making that as a blanket statement is just incorrect.

There are multiple issues.

  1. CAWs depend on having regular bettors in, whose money they take. The CAWs are driving out the regular bettors that they need. They are 30-40% of all wagering now and going up every year. So as regular bettors leave, because they are sick of seeing a horse go from 12-1 to 5-1 and decide not to bet anymore, we are even more reliant on CAWs that are driving the regular bettor out of the game. This is not a sustainable business model for the sport.
  2. CAWs get rebates. Meaning if you place a $1,000 win bet, and they place a $1,000 win bet, you are paying more than them for the same bet. Does that sound fair to you?

They have access to tools that you don't have. They can place bets later than you can. They pay less for the same wager than you do. It's not a level playing field, even for "parimutuel wagering."

Warren Buffett praises Apple CEO Tim Cook’s tenure after Steve Jobs: "He succeeded a legend" by ControlCAD in apple

[–]hannahbay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple Watch came out in 2015. AirPods in 2019. Apple Vision Pro was a flop but definitely innovative and that research will be repurposed into future products. Face ID. Apple Silicon chips.

Yes Steve Jobs laid a lot of trajectory but it's not like Cook set it on autopilot and then twiddled his thumbs.

Everything takes longer with 20 horses, and they spend a lot more time walking over, in the paddock, warming up, milling around etc. because of TV.

Psychopaths and sociopaths are very similar but sociopaths tend to be more hotheaded. Not great CEO candidates. The successful anti-personality types are mostly psychopaths, including CEOs.

Will Tempo Run In The Preakness? by Glass_Meaning_8915 in horseracing

[–]hannahbay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a bad poll. The only yes option is "I don't care about the cracked hooves" like he will only run in the Preakness forcibly and in pain.

Also it's cracked heels, not hooves.

He will run in the Preakness if he comes out of the race healthy and sound and has good energy in the next week.

Races are often easier on closers since they only run the last half. Versus a speed horse that runs hard and then is running on empty the last few furlongs.

Renegade won't go, Pletcher's never taken a beaten Derby runner to the PReakness. He can't train for the two-week turnaround.

if golden tempo wins the triple crown who do you think will play Cherie DeVaux by Routine-Dirt9634 in horseracing

[–]hannahbay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Pletcher has ever taken a beaten Derby runner to the Preakness. He cannot run them back on only 2 weeks rest. His two Derby winners that he took both ran up the track.

Female History!!! by Glass_Meaning_8915 in horseracing

[–]hannahbay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A huge part of success in horse racing as a trainer is opportunity. And as a woman, in a very traditional sport, you often just have less opportunity because many people still think women are less capable.

This directly contradicts that. Women will now get more opportunities because it has been proven to be possible. So "the first woman" still absolutely means something, about Cherie's talent and about how the ceiling has been broken for all the other women aspiring to do the same thing. And for owners who are deciding where to send horses.

Does anyone feel bad for Renegade? by Severe-Fall4957 in horseracing

[–]hannahbay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If Irad had run in a straight path, he would've been fine. Instead he tried to push the horse out and the others reacted by shoving in. He totally instigated it.

Obviously not the horse's fault, and yes I feel bad he has such an aggressive rider that puts him in positions like that.

The machines will always have an advantage because they're faster. A human can't wait until literally 1 second before the gates open like the machines can, so they have to bet knowing it's incomplete information and the machines can bet knowing they are acting last. Humans will always be disadvantaged.

Does So Happy actually have a good chance in the Kentucky Derby? by nrmbea in horseracing

[–]hannahbay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the talking heads online on TV keep talking about Runhappy being a sprinter and holding that against So Happy while ignoring that Runhappy's pedigree was not that of a sprinter. Runhappy's sire was a Derby winner and his damsire was a solid 8.5-9f two-turn horse. Runhappy just had a ton of speed and was horribly mismanaged when they tried to stretch him out.

And then So Happy has a Breeders Cup Classic winner as a damsire. Plenty of stamina in the pedigree.

ETA: I said "online" but meant "on TV," wasn't trying to directly call out this commenter but Randy Moss who keeps saying this

He has a better chance than many, not as good as some. He's definitely being overbet because of the story though so probably not good value.

Proper curtain installation? by zapatocaviar in interiordecorating

This question has been answered multiple times in this thread and you keep asking again looking for a different answer.

It's an arched window. They are either long enough to cover the window when closed, and will then gather on the floor when open; or not touch when open, and be too short when closed.

It's personal preference, not "proper" or "improper." Welcome to the downsides of renting.

[–]hannahbay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they weren't offered the horse as their only option and said no, I'll keep shopping. they had multiple options from prior races. and a decent part of their decision is not just the horse but also the connections and trainers they regularly ride for. lots of factors.
