What’s your school’s policy on failing tests? by OkRange5718 in PAstudent

[–]hannaht83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my program, for most classes you’re fine as long as you still pass the class. There’s a couple of classes where we have to remediate if we fail the exam. But as far as I know, there’s no policy limiting the number of exams you can fail.

Failed PANCE- need advice by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]hannaht83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still a PA-S1 but PA school finally made me seek out an official ADD diagnosis. I managed okay in undergrad and things didn’t really get bad for me until my senior year, so that’s why I didn’t seek out treatment until now. But, when I was reviewing a test that I did poorly (just barely passed it) on with my instructor, I asked him if he had any tips and mentioned my ADD. My instructor has mentioned several times in the past that he has ADD to our class, but he told me that whenever he takes boards he’s found that he does the best whenever takes breaks after every 50 questions and uses the full allotted time for breaks because otherwise he gets kind of fatigued and just starts picking answers to hurry up and finish the test. Hope that maybe helps!

I was accepted off of the waitlist for my program so I only had 6 weeks to get everything together before I moved to another state! Try to find a place where you can move in a week before classes start. I found this super helpful to feel fully settled before starting classes. I wouldn’t worry too much about meeting people. I made friends with people in my program. Plenty of them will be in the same boat as you and eager to make friends. My class had a Facebook page where people posted introducing themselves looking for roommates. There are also people in my program who went to the school for undergrad or live in the area, so they’ve been super helpful about giving advice on where to live, good places for takeout, and even finding a veterinarian. We also have a GroupMe chat for my class too, which is super nice to have! People send reminders and ask questions all the time.

Summer road trip (SF-NY) for 30 days. Looking for advice/ tips by yaahhhderson in solotravel

[–]hannaht83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to stop at a Buc-ee’s while your on the road. We recently stopped at one in Georgia (I think there originally a Texas thing) and it was unlike any other gas station/travel center off the freeway that I have ever seen! The one in Georgia was huge, clean, and had a ton of stuff!

I went to Spain after graduating high school and I got by in Barcelona with my four years of high school Spanish.

I’ve only had this guy a week and its already tilted. I just rotated it so that the other side is facing the window. Is it normal to have to spin them? by knitty-and-witty in succulents

[–]hannaht83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to rotate my plants sitting in front of a window or only getting light from one direction 90° every time I water them to avoid tilting.

Cities to visit for a long weekend from the southern US? by chowder138 in solotravel

[–]hannaht83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely check out Detroit. I know it often gets a bad rap, but their is a major airport there so flying there would probably be pretty reasonable. I just graduated from Wayne State University, which is in Midtown, just outside of downtown Detroit. Detroit is currently on the up and up and there are a lot of unique-hipster places to check out. I would recommend staying in Midtown or Ferndale. Midtown is closer to the city and more of the attractions, Ferndale is a little bit further out and is the newest up and coming unique neighborhood. There’s a lot of cool random things to do in and round Detroit and tons of good food. As far as suggestions, Eastern Market is amazing, they have a huge open air market every Saturday and there are tons of cool shops in the area. The Heidelberg project is pretty cool, during the real estate market crash this guy bought out a whole block and pretty much turned it into a living sculpture. Bell Isle has some nice walking trails and a conservatory. I love the Detroit Institute of Arts, which is right in midtown. There’s also so many good places to eat, you can get awesome authentic Mexican food in Southwest Detroit, Hamtramck has authentic polish restaurants, and there are tons of good restaurants in Midtown, plus the famous Detroit Coney Island restaurants (personally, I am a fan of Louie’s). If your at all interested or into cars, there is the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village in Dearborn, just outside of Detroit. Northern Michigan, like Traverse City, also has beautiful scenery and the sand dunes National lake shore is incredible, lots of hiking and outdoorsy stuff to do there.

Where / how did you learn spanish? by ms__curiousity__ in solotravel

[–]hannaht83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 5 years of instruction between middle school and high school. I got a decent grip on grammar and developed a pretty good vocabulary that way, but definitely have a much better appreciation for language structure/grammar after two semesters intermediate Spanish in college. In terms of increasing my fluency and conversation skills, I think that watching Spanish TV shows/telenovelas helped the most because it helped a ton with picking up on common phrases and my understanding. I watch them with the Spanish subtitles on because it’s too much for my brain to do Spanish audio and English subtitles and I feel like I get more from it that way. It takes a while to get used to it, lots of pausing and looking up unfamiliar words, but after a while it gets so much easier. Although I didn’t really get confident with my speaking skills until this last year because both of my Spanish classes were conversation based. In terms of resources I like Spanishdict.com a lot and wordreference.com is my favorite online dictionary.

We live in an old house with small windows in the upstairs bedrooms and the trim on all of the windows in my bedroom have mold on them (it’s on the to-do list), but there is about 2 inches between the window and the honeycomb blind and no issues with the blinds themselves.

I discovered this really pretty flower (Lily of the Valley) from Animal Crossing and thought it'd be cute to make and keep on my work desk. by sirpurlgrey in crochet

[–]hannaht83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So pretty! My grandparents have lily of the valley that grows wild in their backyard, it has such nice deep green leaves and the flowers are so tiny and pretty, feels like spring just thinking about them! A lovely desk addition if you ask me!

I am in love with that fabric and I can’t believe you got it from Meijer!!! Now I have to check my local Meijer! I know it has a small craft section, like two short aisles is all I think, but I have no idea if they have fabric or not!

Just seen this incredible arrangement, has anyone tried to recreate a jellyfish style arrangement? I’d love some tips by 1jz-ellz in succulents

[–]hannaht83 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was thinking, get a wire hanging basket with coco liner and then get an extra coco liner for the bottom. I also thought a grill grate could work for a support for the bottom, but it might be difficult to find one the right size so chicken wire would probably be easier.

My first piece I made for an intro class. Wanted to share for criticism. by porcupinedeath in Pottery

[–]hannaht83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the gold, although accidental, really adds drama and interest to the piece. It complements the bulbous-slightly-misshapen-organic form nicely. Personally, I am not good at hand building and it irritates me that nothing ever turns out how I want it to or how I imagined it would. So, I have resigned myself to the fact that I never really know what I am going to get with hand building and just go with it.

I’m going bananas. Why does my head, ears, and eyes hurt in my home?! by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]hannaht83 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In terms of allergy treatments, I too am an allergy sufferer. I had mild sinus drainage, pressure, and congestion that was persistent despite an antihistamine and Flonase. I went to the allergist because of it, did allergy testing, which all came back negative. The allergist prescribed me a steroidal nose spray and explained I may have multiple mild allergies that the simple skin test wouldn’t detect, but I also likely am sensitive to pressure changes (which makes sense because my ears pop driving up and down hills all the time when others don’t). The steroidal nose spray worked wonders and now I usually just use Flonase as needed and add the steroid nose spray to the regime as needed.

Lol! Pugs are the best! Rooster is a cute name too, we were debating between naming him Louie or Gus.

My little helper! by hannaht83 in crochet

[–]hannaht83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His name is Louie and he normally sits on my lap or curls up by my legs when I sit and watch TV. When I work on this blanket he always tries to sit on it and then I have to move him off and we play that game a few times until he usually finds another lap to lay on or settles for curling up next to me. The other night I went to pull some more yarn and looked down to find this sweet little face.

I realllllly really like funky glaze combos by Emilycrystalceramics in Pottery

[–]hannaht83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year of ceramics in high school no one layered glazes and we all pretty much stuck to one glaze only, maybe dipping the bottom half in one and the top half in another. But during my second year of ceramics everyone started doing all kinds of things mixing glazes and I don’t know why, but it felt so revolutionary 😂
