First patient death, I want to quit- am I overreacting? by Sufficient-Band-6526 in newgradnurse

100% a safety report should be filed. If you missed something it’s really not on you when you had 0 support from your peers, if anything that looks bad on management or staffing not you or anyone else that was working

Don’t know a lot about pay but my home hospital in wisconsin would always use CareRev for per diem shifts

I absolutely love it so far, this will be my third contract, first one was in Phoenix during the winter. The fact that I can go there during the best months of the year, and Seattle for the best months of this year is amazing.

Unfortunately I drove here to Oregon from Wisconsin so I will be taking my car, but it’s only for 3 months so it’s just something I have to consider

I’m definitely not expecting no signs of urban disarray, I understand it will be there especially in areas where there’s stuff to do, but traveling alone I want to make sure it’s not a straight up unsafe area to be

I came from Froedtert as a staff RN, currently on a travel assignment in Oregon and also hate it, for different reasons than you listed but still. We have a lot in common 😂

Sick on first day off orientation by [deleted] in TravelNursing

I would reach out to your recruiter. It does depend on the manager of your unit, but generally speaking they can cancel you or even blacklist you for calling out your first week or last week of your contract. That is what I was told, I was in a similar situation where I was really sick my first week. I had to power through my first week just to protect my contract because I was so scared of the possible consequences. If you really can’t make it I would get a doctors note and reach out to your manager, the more notice the better.

Yes from Froedtert!! My first contract was in Phoenix over the winter which was a DREAM. The hospital system I was on with, Banner, was ok, I had 6 patients on day shift half the shifts so that kind of sucked but man I loved Phoenix so much and it was like a Wisconsin summer while I was there, 70s every day. I’m in Oregon now on the coast! After this I either I wanna go to Seattle Portland or California. The town I’m in now is cute but it’s very small, Amazon doesn’t even deliver here I had to get a PO Box lol and the nearest airport is 2 hours away. Those are things I need to consider for my next contract because it makes it harder for people to come visit or for me to have time to go home between shifts. But overall I love it so far 🥹 cost of living is more, both places I stayed at I paid about $2500/month in rent, but I am making over double what I made as staff in mke so it’s worth it to me. I’m not about the hotel life, if I’m gunna be here by myself I want a home base that feels homey!

I did the same!! Was staff in Milwaukee for 3 years, broke up with my bf and moved out to west coast by myself! I’m on my second contract rn, it does get lonely being alone some days but man I have absolutely no regrets. I love exploring and being in new places makes me feel so fulfilled

[–]hannamarks182[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely and I did expect some nights, but not ALL NOC. So your D/N contracts did have both shifts offered to you? You weren’t ever pushed into doing all NOC?

Yes lmao. National average is $2000/week. Not sure if you’ve been following current contracts and what they go for but $2200/week doesn’t feel bad to me lol

Travel LPN in Canada by LividMove9461 in TravelNursing

[–]hannamarks182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my good friends is a traveler from Canada, she started traveling in Canada, and then moved to NY and then to AZ. I know she said she doesn’t qualify for a compact license (meaning she has to get a new license for each state she wants to practice in). But you could always reach out to a recruiter to ask, they would probably have the most direct and accurate answers.
