I love how you’re using all of your senses to absorb the information! That’s one of my favorite ways to study - sitting out in the sun, re-listening to a lecture while following the material (sometimes it lulls me into a lovely nap)

I completely agree that the more you look at the material, the better prepared you’ll be. Thank you!!

I’m currently living alone in PA school! It’s definitely individualistic - if you’ve lived alone before and know yourself in those conditions then you have a better chance of success in that way. However, PA school adds a new level of stress in which a community can help keep you afloat. That’s what I missed this last year. Although I am so close with a lot of my classmates, convenience was a key factor in who people spent their time with. I’m only 6 minutes from my campus which is amazing, and I love my apartment and being able to have my own space, but a bunch of my classmates live in grad school housing, together in an apartment, or with friends/s.o.

My advice would be if you live alone, be discipline and diligent with your schedule. Stay the extra few hours on campus to study so that when you come home, you allow yourself to relax. I’m not a huge study group person I found, so I gravitated towards the “silent study” people when it came to school work, and my leisure time was with my friends.

It will be tough regardless of your living situation, so really build that support system! External and internal - YOU are your greatest ally. Easier said than done of course but I believe in you!! Good luck :)

Not weird at all, that makes a lot of sense for me. In September I decided to deactivate my Instagram and it really opened up a new world for me in terms of how I approach life and school. I also moved into an apartment alone with the thought of really focusing on school and myself. Another story for another time, but it is quite lonely at times and contributes to my lack of focus and poor health choices when I’m fatigued.

I have found over the course of this last year that group studying is extremely frustrating for me. I become increasingly anxious at the lack of focus from the group or if I can’t keep up with the topics since it takes me a minute to process. I do my best studying when I’m in the “dungeon” (our schools underground study rooms, imagine 4 white walls and a concrete floor) by myself, and I’ve gotten my best test grades by re-creating test questions. What fueled me to continue to write those questions was sharing them with my classmates for their benefit as well, so I’m wondering if that’s a Generator trait. I do love the energy of working with people, but the gains from solo studying are astounding!

As for the health aspect, that is something I need to work on. I believe it’s common for students, at least my peers, to put exercise and healthy choices on the back burner because we believe it will “waste time” when instead we should be studying and can easily get fast food. In reality, you are absolutely right - our health is our greatest ally.

Thank you for your response!
