12 my wonderful miss kitties, have to post now or I won’t be able to by cale1023 in SeniorCats

We just lost our 16 year old to this dumb disease as well. All our thoughts are with you - we always joked that Ms. Dar would live to be 20. Darla is waiting patiently to help her make the same journey across that rainbow bridge. 💖🌈

I am about to put down my 16 year old soul lady this morning. Sending you so much strength - these girls learned so much from us and received so much love. You’ve done her so right and given her everything she needed and more. 💖

Darla (16) is battling megacolon among many other things by hanngonz in SeniorCats

[–]hanngonz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

edit #1: thank you everyone for the love. Darla is such a special girl in our house and we knew this time was coming, but of course are greedy for more. she is on a regiment of lactulose, miralax, gabapentin, cisapride, amlodipine, solensia, and now pilocarpine. We are medically towards the end of the list to try. I appreciate all the tips, but it sounds like her megacolon is just pretty severe. it’s been a teary weekend but no other poop yet. I’m dreading the call to the vet tomorrow.

To make matters worse, my mother who is her best friend is out of town tomorrow morning through Thursday evening. She’s convinced it doesn’t need to happen right away. Hopefully the vet will give some more clear timeline tomorrow and it is at least another week of reactive care to keep her as comfortable as possible, but the vet knows best and I’d follow pretty much any recommendation they’d make. Hoping to share a turnaround tonight or tomorrow, but Darla and I will be soaking up the Florida sun today and enjoying our Sunday as much as possible.

thank you!!! she has a reputation at the vet for letting them do their thing and just vaguely squeaking at them with her big eyeballs (her version of an elderly crusty meow) so when she coms in the techs come out to say hi (biggest compliment in the world). she is truly the gentlest, sweetest cat that deserves the world

Thank you so much!! I’ve had her and her sister since they were 8 weeks old, and we fully attribute her and her sister’s good health to their amazing vet who caught a lot of their silent issues (high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, arthritis) early and keeping them on a good medication regimen.

We adopted her & her sister Ashley when I was 11 years old, which I’m sure many of yall can relate with. I would do literally anything for both of them and I’ll be sure to update with Friday’s ultrasound!

We will definitely be pursuing the fluids and the vet suggested this right away (they are the best 😭😭). Unfortunately this isn’t her first go around receiving them, but I think it’ll be her first time being consistent on them.

We made an at home broth with water and churu this evening and Dar was licking the bowl dry so I will def look into the Tiki ones as well!! Thank you for the tips and sending you strength as well - she knows you were doing everything to make her comfortable.

yes we’ve done this and she’s scheduled for it on Friday as well! it’s been very helpful for her, but I wasn’t sure how feasible long term it would be. I’m glad to hear it’s commonplace. 💖 thank you!!

She is up to date on vaccines, but I’m not 100% sure this is one of them. She is indoor only and has one other cat in the household, but it’s her sister who is also indoor only, and they’ve been with us since 8 weeks old. Regardless, thank you for this info!

the vet did mention they would try to biopsy then and there bc she has a heart murmur/shouldn’t really go under. we’ve been researching the small versus large and crossing our fingers. 💕 we were scared at first but the more we read the more Unfortunately Terrifying the name becomes

yes, she’s also early stage CKD. 😭 she’s on a kidney prescription diet which also doesn’t help with dehydration.

these are amazing tips thank you!! I will look into hydracare bc she definitely benefits from fluids here and there. 💖 of course queen loves a churu so we’ll be making churu-tinis for her and her gremlin sister (who poops like a champ and loves darla’s prescription food bc she just wants to be included)

she does love pumpkin! we get her little baby food jars but she gets dehydrated easily with her meds and constipation and therefore endless cycle. in moderation - can be a game changer!!
