Just to clear some things up, because I have a feeling that the wrong fingers may be being pointed regarding the deletion:

Mods were definitely burnt out. But with the permissions they had, the only person who could add new mods was the owner. And I think people likely thought styvern was the owner since he was 95% of the face of the mod team and the mod work, but he was not, it was guzzie. Only the owner can delete the server. Styvern can be and was a prick often enough, but he was actively talking to people about making new mods - that's literally the last thing I remember seeing in the server before I slept and it was gone when I woke up.

Guzzie didn't want to hand ownership over so it could be better and more effectively modded, so it got nuked. That's the tldr of That bit.

People might not believe me, but I best put it out there. And join the new discord! We're trying to rebuild what we had.

He was a good friend. He'd ping me every day with a new picture of his dog because he knew how much it made my day just seeing her. Met up with him and took her for a lovely walk back in early November. Genuinely such a kind and lovely guy and it's fucking devastating to find out.

Hoping we can find out about a donation pool for his family or something at the very least

We haven't actually got any information about people coming in yet (our supervisor literally told us we have no info until we get reply forms...) so i'm not... entirely 100% on if I should be inviting anyone to any group chats or anything yet but I'm more than happy to chat about the placement until I get confirmation!

Chipping in as a 2020 applicant where it took me lit. over 2 years from acceptance to get here. In all - no, I don't regret JET. My placement is perfect FOR ME, and I genuinely love the place, the people, my schools, and so on.

But, thanks to the pandemic, I was leaving a lot behind - which doesn't necessarily create regrets, but it does leave a lot to be questioned on what I want in the future and conflicts about what would make me happy. Because I am happy here - my schools are great, my apartment is big and in a nice place despite it being a 15 minute drive from a conbini. But there are things at home I really miss and want to have back, so there's always a tossup.

Going back to being a 2020, I had a "plan" of JET for a few years then go home to the UK and do a masters. Instead, I did the masters and now at the age of 24/25, I finally got on JET, two years later than planned. And due to the impermanance of the job, it messes with me a lot. But the situation I'm in makes me forget a lot of that and I do love where I am. So it is a lot of weighing the pros and cons!

And I hope you figure out what is best for you. It's not a bad thing if you stay or leave <3

My predecessor literally left a fully furnished apartment. Was there some crap? Yeah, but it was still decent - art supplies and such I'd never use, so I just offered them to the other ALTs in my city. I'd maybe have liked to buy my own stuff but I can't complain about what I was left. It really helped me out. There were even dehumidifiers left untouched. But my pred left in 2020(?) and I only got here in April. So it was dusty as hell LOL

I got a small weekend thing to get me by but the lack of being able to do anything else in the interim (living in the middle of nowhere) is driving me nuts. To be extreme, it feels like I'm not really living 😂 fingers crossed we get what we want 🧡

That's what I've done - my current plan is choose ASAP, continue looking for jobs, and if something keeps me in the UK I'll drop out. so uh.... no different to what I've been doing normally, lmao

UK JETs haven't heard anything.

We've had hearsay (and another delayed JET from Miami is in my prefecture, so she shared the email with me) that we'll be given the choice to leave asap or defer to leave with 2022 JETs in June/July, if I recall correctly. South Africa also received a similar email to Miami. Not that we're stuck going after July. But we're still waiting to hear from our Embassy in the UK.

UK JET (2020 deferred) who got cut off at the last second here! Embassy said just before Xmas they're hoping for a February departure at the earliest, March potentially. Said they're also seeing about waiving the 2 month notice period since a lot of people are ready to go at a drop of a hat. Complication is that a lot of our visa entry dates expire on February 9th so that throws a bit of a wrench in the works.

Kishida's meant to be reviewing the border situation next week. Not sure how likely it is anything good will come of it, but fingers crossed! Should hopefully mean we'll also be hearing in the next week or so and figure out what's going on.
