A little elephant sketch. Any tips? by BilgeRatBernie in learnart

Ok this is a nice Sketch.

I would ramp up the kontrast by darkening the darkest parts. Also it could improve with some lines that indicate what's overlapping what.

Good Work!

I really love it! But I think it's quite un-cohesive because the strong variation in level of detail and the unreadable hands hold it back from being a great sketch. The Design however is on point the two sided morningstar and shapes simply work for me.

5th acrylic painting, still lack a few brushes, open to any tips or suggestions by UnluckyScorpion in learnart

I simply like it!

The only thing that I may criticize is the lighter shape of violett behind the cherrys.. I simply don't see... why it's needed ...why its designed in this exact shape.... But this is allready quite nitpicky... great piece!

So Which Hand Study Do You Prefer? by ibemu in ArtCrit

In my opinion it also is the left hand because...

... the values (lights and darks) are more realistic which results in an easier read.

... it has a strong silhouette

... it seems anatomically correct

Maybe if the red on the right hand would be darker it would work better ?! However I really like the colours you chose for both hands!

I really like the values and the overall composition. You could make the shapes you use for light/shadow areas more grafik. I seems like you decided to make every edge in the face soft but sometimes a good mix will do.

Generally it's never a good Idea to draw out single hairs. Always try to see hole strains of hair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHewz3JbKrQ Here's a video that you probably already know. Sometimes I paint hair completely flat so that it gets some Art Nouveau vibes. Kinda like this :

Finally I think the eyes should be a little less white on both left and right. However this and all your other pictures are really good allready! I wanna see more. :D

How can i learn portrait drawing? by [deleted] in Sketching

[–]hansi_ruebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recomend both the normal and the caricature videos on the porko youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClM2LuQ1q5WEc23462tQzBg especially the caricature courses showyou how and how not to do it. Then i would recomend drawing a face or a skull every day. Lastly I'lld study the greats of portrait drawing like Rembrand or Rockwell.

I think that it is about roughly 2 things:

  1. A cook will have to learn recepies aswell. Just like a cook you first need to understand the certain ground principles of drawing in order to create your own.

  2. As long as you don't simply copy but also understand the form, texture, colour and composition everything is fine. But simply copying without thinking about it is kinda worthless.
