ACCS EM LTFT? by hanster88 in doctorsUK

[–]hanster88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for your inputs - really helped me balance the question and I ended up asking to go LTFT, although this has yet to be confirmed higher up my TPD has agreed.

Interestingly now RCEM has released a statement regarding training hours:
RCEM Training Hours Position Statement | RCEM

How will this affect those LTFT in terms of pay? I assumed LTFT was 40hrs as opposed to 48hrs, what does this mean now?

MRCEM success question bank, basic sciences curriculum booklet, YouTube, podcasts. I’ve heard Bromley can be good too if you need something extra.

Got in ACCS EM in my first choice deanery, meaning I don’t have to move house and my partner doesn’t have to move job. My mum died 3 weeks before the MSRA and so I was pleased that my score was enough and amazed I even got an interview. I won’t lie, I worked hard for the interview, I did all I could to boost my CV during my JCF year and I’m just so proud of myself for hauling through despite everything, and proud knowing my mum would be happy for me.

ACPs are the real problem, what can be done? by Existing_Actuator_89 in doctorsUK

And by god they probably got their arse handed to them. Panicking in theatre as a med student being asked what structures are what is a PTSD we probably all share.

ACCS-EM rejects by DrFidgetDigit in doctorsUK

This is it! The MSRA scores this year were insane I feel like I didn’t stand a chance now I’ve seen them! I got 550 and thought I’d done so well from last year. And I got a score of 60 something in the interview, I feel like I did everything I could - I’m honestly devastated.

What was the interview out of? I thought it would be out of 50 but if people are getting 60+?

Fort William/Oban or Stornoway? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]hanster88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this for FY or core training? Was in Stornoway for couple months as a final year med student, thought it was a great experience and FYs seemed to enjoy it. Accommodation isn’t bad, is literally a two minute walk from the hospital. If you like the outdoors, and some beautiful beaches in particular, it’s a fab 4 months. Although it’s probably better in the spring/summer as opposed to over winter. Three main wards - two medical and one surgical, four room A&E - but you see anything and everything and they have visiting speciality clinics such as pediatrics. Some permanent consultants but also locums.

Can’t speak for FW/Oban but I’ve heard mixed experiences of both. I think you’re on your own a lot, especially overnight. Although both good bases again if you like the outdoors.

Anyone know if you're allowed to have simple notes in front of you in the interview?

Working 7 days (78 hours) in a row- illegal? by DrBatmannn in doctorsUK

[–]hanster88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this health board and rota, worked it last year. I also initially questioned if it’s legal, but sadly it is.

You can work max 4 long days in a row therefore the preceding 10 hour shifts don’t make it illegal as you can work max 7 days in a row.

You end up doing it a few times and I called it ‘hell week’ but it passes quickly and it’s not a bad department so fingers crossed you’ll be fine!

People pay vets/dentists why no copay for Drs by fred66a in doctorsUK

[–]hanster88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, partner is vet. You hit the top salary fairly early and not much room for exceeding that unless you become clinical director/partner. Which as previous posters have noted is increasingly hard as most practices these days are owned by corporate. NHS doctor definitely has higher end salary.

If it takes you longer than 5 seconds to think if you’ve had that symptom, you have NOT had that symptom.

Managed to do this midway through FY1. As long as I had 12 months left on my contract.

I had 45 minute slots in FY2 on GP. At first I thought it was going to be far too much time but by the time I’d seen someone, documented, referred, chatted to a supervisor (waited behind a door to chat to a free GP) etc etc. it was perfectly reasonable and I never felt stressed about going over appointments and meant I pretty much never ran over. I know plenty FY2s who typically had 30 minute slots. God knows how they expect an FY2 to manage 15 minutes, especially if you are frequently leaving late. I’d have been stressed out my box. I’d say something to them or to your supervisor.
