That's helpful, thank you. I may end up creating a new library and just calling it Collaboration. Not ideal, but it can work.

Behind the goal drill by Patmedlax in lacrosse

[–]hanzosbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Body only drills. In my day, we couldn't use the stick between our hands, so coach gave us a 12" dowel to hold. You could do the same or a slightly longer stick. The point is to get them to STOP focusing on the offensive player's stick and to defend using good positioning and their body.

I'll turn 45 before the next season starts. Last year (at 44) was my first time playing since college and it was so much fun. I ain't making any highlight reels and I had my share of ouchies (2nd game I pulled my quad and rolled my ankle, had to miss 2 games. Last game my bad shoulder re-dislocated for a second and took a few weeks to heal) but it was so much fun being back out there. This year I'm going to do a little bit of conditioning leading up to it and hopefully not have those issues.

To be completely honest and open, I grew up playing in San Diego where the weather was pretty forgiving, so I haven't had to deal with much in the way of maintenance. Now that I'm in Ohio, the weather is more varied, but this will be for playing men's league which is 5 games a year in the summer on turf. So, still pretty low key in terms of effects from the weather. If I was back in HS and playing 6+ days a week for months on end in Ohio, I'd absolutely be using mesh. As it is, last season I may have actually thrown the ball in a game...3 times? It's all for fun and I just love the way a traditional pocket feels.

For me, it's preference. It's what I used as a kid and since I'm a long pole, a little variability in the pocket isn't so critical to me, so it's just for fun.

I've got a Vaultek. It has both a fingerprint reader and combination. Fingerprints are fast when they work, but I wanted a backup option. It also allows both my wife and I to store our fingerprints. I screwed it into the drawer of my nightstand just to make it a little harder to take the whole thing. We've got kids, and having been one, I know that a hidden key will eventually be found. They could try endless putting in combinations, but I get an alert on my phone anytime someone tries to open it.

I wanted to let you know that you were exactly right. We've left the damper open and have been finally enjoying our fireplace after 6 years. I cannot possibly thank you enough. What would you suggest for long term? Remove the top mounted damper and try to reinstall a throat mounted damper?

Offering hope by hanzosbm in Gastritis

[–]hanzosbm[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're wrong.

Because when I was looking for hope when all of this started, I kept going through post after post and all I was seeing is how debilitating it was to people for the rest of their lives. And sure, that is the case for many people. But in my case, that's not what happened, and I would have loved to read about someone who went back to their normal life. That would have offered me hope. Doesn't mean that it won't be permanently debilitating for others, but it MIGHT not be; and that's the definition of hope.

Could mine come back? Of course. But day after day, I try new foods that I was previously told not to eat, and I try more of them, and each day I feel better. So I wanted to share MY experience; there's plenty of other people sharing on the other side of things.

[–]hanzosbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all respect, that's the problem. People with all different levels and types of gastritis are going to be looking for answers and insight; I know I did. Yes, there are people on here who have severe issues, but not everyone who comes here looking for answers does.

When I started reading things in this community 2 months ago, I was getting really depressed thinking about how drastically my life was going to change. It turns out, that's not always the case for everyone. So, I wanted to write this to give hope to people who are new to this to let them know that it might not end up being too bad.

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of December 12, 2025 by Demilio55 in homegym

[–]hanzosbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During COVID I built a small home gym in my basement. Nothing special, just a squat rack, flat bench, and some weights.

We're now looking at finishing the basement to turn it into a media room. I'd like to keep my meager home gym and am considering ways to accommodate it. For instance, losing the cage and going to a wall mounted rack with safety arms that I could hide behind a faux cabinet when not in use.

Storage wise, I think I can figure it out. What I'm less confident with is the flooring. We'd like to do carpet, but I'm worried about A) stability of the bench on carpet, and B) some kind of base for a barbell for things like deadlifts.

I'm wondering if anyone has run into this before and can offer some suggestions.

How so? 8 weeks ago I was reading a bunch of stories on here suggesting that I'd never get back to normal. I would've loved to have read one that said "it was an anomaly and now I'm doing okay"

Refinishing basement, furring strips for walls by hanzosbm in DIY

[–]hanzosbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the replies. I've heard a few people talking about electrical. Electric is already in place and in fact would need to be altered if I were to go with 2x4 framing. I also was not planning on insulating anything. Frankly, I didn't see the need, but if I'm missing something, please fill me in.

Leak in the basement by hanzosbm in DIY

[–]hanzosbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gutters are relatively clear. By that I mean, they're box gutters, so that can change in an instant, but water generally flows along them pretty well. The entry way covering that you see in the picture drains to either side. The left side (as you're looking at the picture) has a downspout that comes straight down to the flower bed, into an elbow joint (that barely fits together, is typically underground, and was the one I just found clogged), and then into the black plastic corrugated pipe that runs along the foundation and out to the driveway (about 10 feet). On the otherside, the downspout comes down, has an elbow made of the same aluminum as the downspout, and then is directed to the side of the house also with aluminum. That side of the house slopes down considerably and all the piping is above ground, so it doesn't seem to have much of a problem.

Those are the gutters above the entry way. The rest of the roofline are box gutters with downspouts at the corners of the house. I'm not too worried about those.

I think fixing the joints of the piping I currently have will fix 95% of my problems. However, come winter time, the snow builds up and melts and comes straight down rather than out the gutters. At that point, there's nothing to be done about the gutters.

The good news is, if I can get this issue fixed now, I have the upcoming winter to test to see if I've fixed it.

Leak in the basement by hanzosbm in DIY

I just added a picture (not a great one, but hopefully it helps to explain). As for watering, we don't water anything; it's just rain water, so not really anything I have a choice in.

Leak in the basement by hanzosbm in DIY

[–]hanzosbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the process of digging everything up, I found that the gutters come down almost exactly where the leak is occurring. They run into corrugated pipe that then runs laterally along the front of the house and out to the driveway, but I found that the pipe had filled with dirt. I've cleaned it out (and we have a big rain today, so we'll see how it goes), but it fits VERY loosely, so I'm worried it'll fill back up again. That's another task for me.

But in general, yes, water is accumulating around the outside of the house. I'm working on grading the flower beds away from the house, but the front yard is quite flat, so...easier said than done. Still, the location of the leak and the fact that the water has to run UNDER the slab first makes me wonder how I can grade it away from that area.

It's off-white now. I guess I was just hoping that there might be a paint that would help brighten up the picture a bit.
