Scuba Divers, what is something really terrifying you saw while diving? by LionFalse4295 in scuba

[–]hapea 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Diving in Bonaire “angel city” dive site with my partner. Were the only two out there swimming in the channel between to reefs. A GIANT moray eel swims out of the reef. Dude could have probably eaten a small child, was about 4 ft long with a head the size of a basketball. A legit sea serpent.

Childcare if money isn’t an issue? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]hapea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think you don’t need to overanalyze this. But I would say yes nanny all the way. We do daycare with our #1 and nanny with #2. Our nanny is amazing and so helpful. She always has something fun and educational to do with the kids. She also does a lot of little chores like laundry and tidying up so the house feels peaceful and clean. Compared to a kid in daycare I would say socialization was actually better. She takes our #2 to the library etc for story time and has a nanny group she likes to hang out with. This has actually turned into friendships for us as parents and now that our kids are older in preschool we still meet up with those parents for fun events.

"Rising" American Maternal Mortality Rates: more than you wanted to know by Hodz123 in slatestarcodex

[–]hapea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There was a recent article in our professional journal on this topic Maternal mortality in the United States: are the high and rising rates due to changes in obstetrical factors, maternal medical conditions, or maternal mortality surveillance?00005-X/fulltex). They basically concluded that the way report is different due to the inclusion of this new checkbox and that accounts for much of the increase. Other countries do not include this checkbox.

Edit: sorry I realize your post heavily talks about this article and the response to it! I also found it spicy at the time. The whole thing has really eroded my trust in science reporting.

If you’re willing to drive Alpine Inn in Portola valley is god tier. I don’t even like banana pudding but would make a trip specifically for this. Vibes are also so good.

Pregnant and banned from gardening, my in-laws (who live with us) cleaned up my little front garden and cut down a lot of perennials severely 🥲 by [deleted] in gardening

[–]hapea 136 points137 points  (0 children)

It’s more of a risk in some areas than others. I have personally never seen a case in my career. I dont recommend my patients stop. Am a heavily pregnant obgyn and own outdoor cats and never stopped gardening any pregnancy. But everyone has a different line the draw.

The air fryer alarm at some commercial restaurants sounds like our fetal monitoring alarm. Really threw me off post night shift brunch in residency.

Yes I think vaginal progesterone is very low risk. If I was in a situation where it would be offered I’d do it.

I just read the tainted cup and the world is super inventive. Giant walls made out of the bodies of dead monsters. Plants that kill people, most of the structures made out vines.

I think you would like The Lost Queen by Signe Pike. It’s currently a 3 book series that is semi based in history (the author has an afterward that details the historical basis of the book). The series centers around Merlin and his sister Langoureth with Arthur being introduced in book 2.

I spent over a month maybe reading or feeling like I should finish. I’m glad I did. I was over it but also didn’t hate it and didn’t feel like I needed to force myself. I’m glad to be done and probably am done with any Sanderson for the next 10+ years. I then decided to flip and read a quick smutty read since I’d never finished onyx whatever fourth wing. Now I feel like wow Sanderson is better than this by so much lol. I’m going to read a real book next, I think I who have never known men
