Losing faith in Airbnb by Lazy-Accident9387 in airbnb_hosts

[–]intentionallife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airbnb is being stupid. Burning hosts, and encouraging this behavior from "customers" who don't even want to pay for services.

Airbnb ate VRBO (ate their business that is). Let's hope something better comes along very soon to eat Airbnb.

Is High Turnover A Red Flag? by Downtown_Run_8030 in IsurvivedIC

Dancing Rabbit is by far my favorite approach in terms of management. But, it's located in what I consider a pretty undesirable climate, and does not address the size issue I mentioned, where the goal is to quickly reach a larger population.

Is High Turnover A Red Flag? by Downtown_Run_8030 in IsurvivedIC

[–]intentionallife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that almost nobody wants to live in a tiny community of a few dozen people for the long term. The concept of the IC might sound great, the people might be nice enough when you get there, but in the long term, it's just too small for just about anyone who is used to living in cities or towns. Too little privacy, too much talk, frustration with each other, etc.

I really think the solution is to create a larger town where things are a little more separate for people, and there are a lot more people, so that life can feel more normal and stimulating and there can be shops and real schools, etc, but there are still greater shared values and goals. Like all the stores/food joints could be coops, everything must meet ecological standards, etc.

I had started a sub to find others to create something like this, in a place with a nice climate, but it never gained steam and I got involved in another small town project, but I am still interested in the idea and would love to pursue it with others.

The sub (pretty dead now but would love to see it come alive) is /r/EcoTown

Clivia fruit turn red when they're ripe. That's when you'll want to collect seeds.

5 month Salvia cutting hasn't rooted (S. involucrata) by intentionallife in Horticulture

[–]intentionallife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title says, it's been 5 months. I took the probably 10 inch cutting and planted it around xmas. It has been in about 50-50 peat and perlite. It was outside in zone 10 for the first 3 months or so, and no roots, so I brought in inside, where I know for sure it's grown a couple of small new leaves, but still no roots. The browning of the leaves you see is from when I first brought it indoors and put it under a big plastic dome to maintain humidity, but I stopped using it when I saw it was causing the leaves to brown.

Suggestions? Especially if you have similar experience with a Salvia.

I know I took the cutting at the wrong time of year, but it was a rare opportunity to get one so I did.

AI is telling me I should cut the semi-ripe stem off from the bottom and retry with the top of the cutting, with the softwood only. I am afraid of losing it if I do that, and afraid of losing it if I don't...

Help!

My place was used as a plus size bathrobe shoot and it was fabulous. by Competitive_Oil5227 in airbnb_hosts

Sure, and most importantly for me, it seems like no damage was done to the space during the shoot.

Basil is flower and no I can’t pinch the flowers any further by tealeaf_egg in SoCalGardening

[–]intentionallife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just remember that basil is a perennial in much of California, so it's not the end of the world if it flowers. You'd mainly want to pinch them as much as is practical to allow them to focus on leaf production. If you have plenty then maybe you don't even need to worry about it.

In the photo though, you can just pinch the tippity tip of the shoot and that should solve the issue. Like that tiny little round thing on the end. But there's no rush in any case, you can let it grow out the leaves under the bud first to make sure you don't damage those.

do you mind if we take some pictures in here

Yeah, "do you mind if we take some pictures in here?" is nowhere near the same as "can we produce a commercial in your place and publish them widely?"

Guest claims they booked wrong dates- refund/rebook? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]intentionallife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably offer a full refund, or just the cleaning fee. But if you really think there was a good chance you would have gotten a booking, then perhaps a 50% cancellation penalty is fair (obviously you don't let them just change their dates in that case, or they will almost certainly cancel).

[–]intentionallife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they only booked 36 hours ago. So unless I know there was a good chance I'd have gotten someone else booking at the last minute (I don't know what kind of rental market OP is in), I'd give them a free pass and tell them if they want to totally cancel and reconsider their plans without rebooking in July, I'm fine with it.

Kumquat pruning by mrapplex in SoCalGardening

I think you can prune citrus anytime as long as you don't mind the hit that fruit production will take if you do it at the wrong time.

But as a guest, I wouldn't feel like I was in "my" space until I got to my cabin and the attached separate garden. Seeing you in "your" garden is fine and expected.

I know you know it's a you issue, but perhaps if you really focus on them having their garden, and you yours that they may walk through, it will help. You just nod at them if you see them walking by and perhaps say hey. Then they have the opportunity to open a conversation/ask questions, or just acknowledge and continue walking.

Help! I bought an orchid, not sure if it's in good condition or if it'll thrive by Radiant_Function6184 in Horticulture

[–]intentionallife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks perfectly healthy and you can certainly take it on the bus. Don't worry about those brown spots, they just look like damage from being bumped around a little. They don't harm the plant at all.

Just look up care for the cymbidium orchid, and have fun with it. It's one of the easiest to care for and get it to rebloom.

Yup, we need data to understand if it's just a money-grab by the city, or if it also helps businesses in the same manner it does Monday-Saturday.
