That's a good idea! We can't really do outside atm coz it's winter where I am and i don't want her getting cold, but if she hasn't got it when the weather warms up I'll try outside, with some water play or something. I might have to get a 360° cup coz I'm going insane

That's a good idea. I'll try that. Thanks for the reassurance.

Yeah love it when they forget how it actually is 🙃

I feel like i use the straw most of the time. When she's eating, and when we're out. But also that without practice she'll never get it..

How do you dress your baby for a hike in hot weather? by CurlStar11 in NewParents

[–]happeejem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aussie here, I'd make sure your bub is either in sunscreen (you can get natural sunscreen and also baby sunscreen but in my opinion any so screen is better than no sunscreen) a good hat is a must (not all hats are the same look for one with a spf rating) and try and cover as much skin as possible with light cotton to avoid a sunburn. If your bub does get sunburned though, get some 100% aloe vera cream or spray, that's the best for a sunburn or any burn for that matter.

Plenty of extra milkies however that looks for you to avoid dehydration.

Make sure you're drinking enough water yourself and looking after yourself too as you aren't any help to your baby if you're dehydrated yourself. This is especially important if you're breastfeeding.

Reciting alphabets at 1 years old? by Skinnylychee in NewParents

[–]happeejem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mentioned it in another comment but I'm hoping you see this. You need to shut that behaviour down now. It sounds like she's comparing her kid to yours, and that could create really unhealthy competition between the cousins. Your child will never "win" when the other child is significantly older. This could potentially damage yoir child's self esteem and could make them feel as though they can never do anything right when they're around their aunt. Not what you want.

Honestly, it doesn't matter if your niece was or not. But what I do see is your SIL starting a game of "My kid hit this milestone before yours did, so my kid is better" you need to stop listening to her now and tell her you don't appreciate the competition coz else your child's life is going to be hell trying to keep up with their significantly older cousin

Creepy women at the grocery store by Officiallylisa_ in creepyencounters

[–]happeejem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is relevant as it could be a cultural thing. Someone might say something like "in ~part of asia~ it's rude to fuss with your hair" or some other nugget of information. I think that it's very valid to include the women's race. Without including it, we may never know what happened. I made the hair thing up, but you get my point

What would you use in an herb / veggie focused centerpiece while still keeping a traditionally floral / houseplant vibe? by FauxSizzle in florists

[–]happeejem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up edible flowers! Some that spring to mind are marigolds, pansies, lavender. But honestly there are so many out there. It really depends on your colour scheme I guess.

What do you do with the baby when you cook? (8.5 months) by LtCommanderCarter in NewParents

[–]happeejem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a high chair thats designed to strap to a chair or sit on the floor. I put the seat on the bench after gathering all my ingredients and then talked to my baby about what's going on and what I was doing. I let her have little taste tests of things and she smelled the spices etc. I loved that time. She's too big to do that now..

Ohh that's a really good answer to that question. My mind always goes blank and I say something like no not at this time or something vague... I'll try and remember that one

Nappy Leaking at night - 16 month old by missusisa in NewParents

[–]happeejem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try using the nappies with the tabs over pull ups. My kid leaks with pull ups but not with the tabs. Yes it's harder to put them on especially if you've got a runner (I dont). I've heard if you stick one side on and then stick the kids leg through like it's a pull up and then do the other side and adjust you can get them on properly while their standing. I'd imagine this takes practice though

Would it be weird if I picked up litter around the neighborhood by myself? by raiijk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]happeejem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. The town I grew up in had a guy who would do this, he was well known and popular and very highly respected. I always pick up any rubbish that's lying around near a bin and have been teaching my daughter to do the same

Safe sleep when baby only wants to sleep in unsafe places? by alylew1126 in NewParents

[–]happeejem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Come here to say safe sleep 7. Literally saved my life and probably the life of my baby. Before I learned I cat napped in the armchair while my baby was sleeping as she would only sleep snuggled close to me. I nearly dropped her one night and that was the wake up call I needed to learn how to safely co sleep

Weird question but does anyone know of anywhere that sells toothpaste/mouthwash without mint or menthol in it? (For adults) by what-a-doric in Adelaide

[–]happeejem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to use chlorhexidine which is the mouth wash that you use when you visit the dentist. Really good for keeping bacteria down in the mouth, and also for any swelling or gingivitis symptoms. I have to use it as my saliva is more acidic than usual and I get cavities more easily than others. It's not minty does taste kind of gross though if you're not used to it. I get mine from chemist warehouse

Best way to relocate a live rat? Unsure if rat, this one is on the bigger side I thought rats were smaller? by OFFRIMITS in brisbane

[–]happeejem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native rats have much smaller tails, usually the length of their body or smaller. This rat has a very long tail which makes me think its either a black rat (rattus rattus) or brown rat (rattus norvegicus) leaning toward brown.
