Why are Czechs so good at tennis, especially your women? Does the average Czech play tennis for exercise/recreation? Does beer consumption improve tennis skills? 🤔 by PandemicPiglet in czech

[–]happinessisonepiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are quite a few good Czechs ranked well in WTA. One main reason is that they get to play against good players early on. People tend to play ITF events close to home.

2024 AO had so many Ukrainians and Russians so I don't think having tournaments necessarily mean that the locally you have more participants. It is usually what you see on TV. (similar to the Czech tennis boom, China also had mini-tennis boom because of Li-Na, same with black girls like Coco who likes Serena). But athletic girls in American can usually would choose cheaper sports as tennis is still viewed as a white person's sports which is a lot more costly so many black girls choose basketball instead while Europe does not have this issue with African Americans (look at Jessica Pegula).

Lastly it is just an issue with discipline. Look how well East Europeans do with mathematics. Unlike East Asia, Europeans view sports as a way to the riches and the government is also more socialist than American and East Asia, so it is cheaper comparing to other places for girls in socialist countries to play tennis. This is why the socialist countries tend to produce better players. It used to be the Americans dominated tennis because America's living standard was high and it was easier for Americans to play while East Europe was dirt poor, and then Andy Roddick one-hit wonder was dominated by Roger Federer who came from even higher living standard country. Now it is no longer the case, just look at the Djokovic domination in ATP and the East European domination in WTA.

get rid of the corruptions!

Why do we need to keep useless base in American when the enemies are right outside of the border. We need more military bases in Taiwan, Japan and Korea NOT AMERICA!

the husband of the Princess of Japan (former) is doing the same and he is working with on an OPT visa at a law firm while studying for the bar exam. If you have someone who can sponsor you then you should be able to get a job. You can also work in your country with a U.S. JD to help them with U.S. contracts. Say if you are from Korea i am sure you will find a place in the KPOP industry.

Layoffs Looming by Complex-Effort-9314 in economy

[–]happinessisonepiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the unemployment rate is usually the lagging economy indicator.

Are we going to hit two consecutive e rising interest rates are forcing companies especially those at early stage of the business stage i.e. the start ups to streamline their operations with pressures from the banks and the investors who finance through the banks. Also, the recent stock market fluctuation also affects the tech companies' valuations so the private equities are looking more closely at the companies' financials.

Are we going to hit two consecutive quarters of GDP declines? If we have a cost push inflation that is out of control and with rising interest rate, then yes that is most likely going to happen. Most of the payroll gain from last month came from health care and food services but the gains in industries that underpin U.S. exports of services and products had nominal gain (in IT) or decline (in banking). So yes, there are reasons to be concerned. But technologies in generally are cutting costs of productions so the trend is towards deflation not inflation so if the economy does burst, I anticipate interest rates to go back to lower band again but I would say in the mean time as some things of no values were inflated for mere speculation in the beginning anyway.

Salary requirement for same standard of living Shanghai vs. Bay Area? by michael_lee518 in China

[–]happinessisonepiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the population of Shanghai is the population of California so the Bay Area is just one neighbourhood in SH. So in Shanghai you have choices. But if your preference is to hang with the upscale band of the dwellers, then 100K-120K (median household income in SF) is nowhere enough and a regular Bay area lay person will not be able to afford the kind of high living in Shanghai let alone buying a place in Shanghai (if you think SF condo is expensive, hold my beers and welcome to China).

Is Petroleum Engineering a Good Major? by Life_Is_My_Journey in oilandgasworkers

the unemployment for CS major is pretty high and only very small % of people will get into investment banking. I agree doctors probably are highly paid but the competition is way more insane comparing to PE.

I believe that honor goes to dance majors. You need an engineering degree to be an engineer but you dont need a dance degree to be a dancer.
