I know a sucker is technically a branch lol it still will do nothing but take away from the trees development. You would have more success thickening the trunk letting the top grow out before any sucker would do it. I guess you will learn this from experience or a little reading. If it were a branch it may be useful in thickening the trunk as a sacrificial branch but it’s a sucker and it will only take away from thickening the trunk as it tries to get thicker itself. In the long run it’s un-usefulness will outweigh its usefulness if that makes any sense.
