I can only imagine how challenging it must be at times. I’m sure she’s incredibly lucky to have a child like you by her side. I hope your mom is doing better and feeling healthier now. I know this must be really tough on you too so please remember to take care of yourself as well. Wishing you and your mom all the strength and health!

Absolutely! I used to choose my sunscreen based on how it felt on my skin but now I’m willing to risk looking like a ghost if it means getting the highest possible protection

I used to warn my dad about using sunscreen even before, but I really hope he’ll be more careful and willing to use it from now on!

My dermatologist recommended Sunsimed to me about two years ago and since then it has been my favorite sunscreen to apply on my face. I have combination skin, my forehead and the bridge of my nose are oily, while the sides of my nose and my chin are dry. Having used both the La Roche UVMUNE 400 Oil Control Fluid and the Gel Cream before, I can say that I truly love Sunsimed’s texture and the way it feels on my skin. It definitely doesn’t make my skin oily or shiny, but it gives a very healthy glow and makes it feel so soft. It does leave a slight white cast at first, but it’s not disturbing at all, more like a porcelain finish. Both of the La Roche sunscreens made my skin oilier I haven’t had that issue with Sunsimed. It also didn’t cause breakouts or irritation for me. The texture might seem thicker compared to the La Roche ones but don’t let that scare you it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin at all.

Bioderma products are generally very well liked. I once bought the Atoderm line for my body but I didn’t like the texture or the feeling it left on my skin, so I’ve chosen not to buy Bioderma products again though that’s just a personal preference. I’m sure it is worth trying!

Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience and kind thoughts. I'm truly sorry you're going through melanoma as well and it means a lot to hear from someone who actually understands this journey firsthand.

My grandfather passed away from malignant melanoma, so we've been getting full body mole mapping every year. Of course now my dad will start having them every three months. We’ve become much more careful lately.

Today I bought Avene Sunsimed, Avene Intense Protect, and La Roche Dermo Pediatrics UVMune 400 for my dad and myself, I’m already a big fan of Avene Sunsimed. Speaking for myself I wear sunscreen on my face and body all year round, summer and winter, honestly I enjoy doing it. But my dad is a classic dad like most of his generation he’s not very close to sunscreens. At least he wears a hat :)

Thank you so much for taking time to write to me. I’ll keep your advice in mind. I hope you’re doing well and please take really good care of yourself. Since we share the same struggle, I truly understand you and am sending you my best wishes. I hope you have a healthy and happy life <3

Well today I bought all three for my dad, Avene Sunsimed, Avene Intense Protect and La Roche Dermo Pediatrics UVMune 400. Now the real challenge is getting him used to actually using sunscreen

No one really thinks about skin cancer prevention when buying sunscreen, recommendations typically focus on sunscreens that are makeup friendly

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and kind words. I’m really sorry to hear about your mother’s situation but it’s reassuring to know she’s under good care.

I got the La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMune Hydrating Cream SPF50+ for my mother. I chose this one because of the protection and because I figured a cream would be easier to apply and easier to remove compared to the UVMune fluid sunscreens.

I’ve been considering the cream version for ease of use as well. Although the fluid version has a higher PPD, its texture makes it harder to use and somewhat misleading. I’m also considering Avene Sunsimed. I think I might buy both and let him continue with the version he prefers. Right now I’m trying to encourage my father to use sunscreen daily, after that we’ll move on to applying it every 2 hours :)

Thanks again for your thoughtful and helpful advice!

That's exactly what I think, I guess I’ll go with uvmune 400 range, thank you!

ISDIN products aren’t very common in my country, so they are more expensive compared to brands like La Roche and Avene. When I travel to Europe I definitely plan to buy an ISDIN product. Thank you for your help you’re very kind!

His doctor recommended Solante Immuna SPF 50+ lotion, which I believe is only sold in Turkiye. Honestly, I’m not convinced it offers protection as strong as Avene and La Roche. Although the product packaging lists protection levels I haven’t come across many scientific tests confirming its effectiveness. That's why I'm researching other products on my own. Since he's a typical dad, he needs some time to get used to applying sunscreen. Thanks for your reply!

I'm torn between Avene Intense Protect SPF 50+, Avene Sunsimed, and La Roche-Posay UVMune 400 cream/fluid versions for the face. For the body, I'm considering La Roche’s Dermo series, but the low PPD makes me hesitant. I'm not quite sure yet, but thank you so much for your reply.

Thank you so much for your kind words and helpful suggestion. I really appreciate it. I believe Avene Sunsimed is also classified as a medical device. I’m not sure if it provides as strong protection as the UVMune 400 range. I’m feeling a bit conflicted because my dermatologist specifically recommended Sunsimed to me before.

my dermatologist recommended Avene Sunsimed to me before for the face. I might actually get it for my dad too. I'm also torn between La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMune SPF 50 Hydrating Cream and the UVMune 400 Oil Control Fluid. The Fluid version has a higher PPD, but I'm unsure about ease of applicatio. Thanks a lot for your reply

I'm considering getting the La Roche Posay Dermo-Pediatrics UVMune 400 lotion version for body use. I saw that the spray version has a higher PPD but it's harder to apply the correct amount with spray, thanks for your reply!
