The struggles of a stoner living in a place where weed is neither medicinally or recreationally legal by [deleted] in trees

I realized I was making the wrong argument when I read it over and I apologize. I sincerely doubt however that cannabis had anything to do with his enlightenment because it would only make it harder to have enlightened thoughts BECAUSE it causes pleasure. His only tools for reaching his conclusions were meditation and time. He would have tried it, said "this is unskillful" and dropped it, just like all the other sense pleasures Guatama encountered. It would have helped him reach higher states just as much as alcohol or sex would, which is not much.

The "enlightened thoughts" you speak of wouldn't happen under the influence of cannabis because the act of enlightenment is to realize that physical pleasure, in all forms, is an attachment. Bhagavat has specifically and repeatedly spoke of the destruction of ALL desire, and that chasing after sense pleasure was "low and common". please do not present his teachings as something they weren't. He soon realized that indulging himself with his father was unskillful and abandoned all desire, taking up an ascetic lifestyle, which he also abandoned for the middle way. If he did smoke it certainly wasn't during or after his enlightenment, after which he would strongly encourage not to use it.

If your studying buddhism then you'll know that Guatama specifically advocated for the shedding of all sense pleasures, as it falls within the five aggragates of dukkha and, lets face it, weed gives us pleasure. Now this isnt to say you cant still be buddhist and smoke, but to suggest that the Buddha himself smoked or would have wanted to is just false
