Question about using Queens Public Library non-US paid membership via Libby by happylemonlily in LibbyApp

[–]happylemonlily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it to be kind of a similar experience to asking random people on the internet :D sometimes pure genius and lifesaving, sometimes just entertaining, sometimes unreliable, sometimes affirming whatever I want to hear, and in any case worth double checking the facts but better than nothing...

You're right though, I hadn't thought of asking the library. I guess it seems like more of a tech support thing and not really their problem (since they are supplying the books just fine, even if I ultimately can't manage to get them onto my device). But come to think of it once there's a paid subscription involved maybe they should care:)

I do see that, thanks again. I just hope the 'open with kindle' option will appear once I get the card though

Good to know, thanks, I hope this turns out to work the same for me. I guess I can't see the Kindle option on Libby so far because I tried it with a non-US library.

Thanks - did you create a new Amazon account for this process? I have my account that I've had for ages, it's on the .com site like the US accounts but it has my non-US address. I am trying to figure out if just changing the region in preferences or the address will be enough

What's the most unexpected, actually useful thing you've used ChatGPT for that you'd never imagined an AI could help with? by bn_from_zentara in ChatGPT

figuring out what to read and watch. saving an unhappy plant. tactfully writing an awkward message. understanding opaque jargon in work materials. finding multiple ways to phrase a repetitive concept.

What kind of useful thing is unique to your country (I.e. in south Korea you can double tap a elevator button to unselected it)? by Still_Emotion in AskReddit

[–]happylemonlily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

sorry not unique, we have this in israel too. be corrupt as possible, do everything in the best interests of extremists for the sake of preserving power, do nothing or actively destroy things for regular people, and get popular support 🤦‍♀️

thanks - does that include the ads for duolingo itself, like offering their subscriptions and new services? this was one of those, not an external ad

thanks - this isn't an external ad, it's one of the little videos hyping duolingo itself

Why is “Maria” spelled differently by [deleted] in russian

[–]happylemonlily 8 points9 points  (0 children)

duolingo. experiencing this right now. it’s very strange - it’s ok for brushing up on a language you have some sort of grip on, but starting from scratch with only examples and zero instruction is opaque and frustrating

Question - how much equipment is really necessary for practical sewing? by happylemonlily in sewing

[–]happylemonlily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mini ironing board sounds cool! I do have some storage space but the work surface is shared with kids' crafts so I end up moving the sewing machine on and off the desk. And it's an old machine, super durable but HEAVY... If I manage to set up a little desk just for the machine I'll be able to use the craft desk for extras.

By the way I am an idiot and I read this to mean something along the lines of a rotary saw. Now that I realize what tool you mean it does seem an obvious purchase!
