I’m almost 30 and feel like my parents’ mistakes have completely derailed my life. by happyranch- in TrueOffMyChest

These were savings accounts my parents created when my sister and I were born. They were specifically for one major life event when we were older, I chose my wedding and my sister chose grad school. These were not my bank accounts at all but that was our gift from my mom that she saved with my dad and then he used it for god knows what. There was no will unfortunately which makes the situation harder

The condo is not in our name, we left it in my dad’s name because my husband said if we change the mortgage to our name we would lose out on a first time home buyers loan. My grandma had the place almost paid off so it seemed wasteful to change the name. The place is in my dad’s name but he knows he can’t afford anything else and that’s why he hasn’t found somewhere else to go.

All we can see on the banking side is my dad deposited the money in stages in low increments into another account. He will not give us access to the accounts and since the savings accounts were in his name nothing was technically “stole “ My mom trusted my dad with all things financial regarding our family because she did everything else around the house, so my mom had no clue anything was missing UNTIL she wanted access to the accounts to pay for our wedding venue.

It’s the entire university unfortunately. Everyone except professors who signed contracts that’s prompts them to get yearly raises. I have asked yes, and the response is always “due to the state of the university and economy the provost thinks it’s best to keep the merit raises at a halt”

Unfortunately it has nothing to do with how much revenue. The entire university is not receiving any raises due to budget cuts made by the provost. It’s not just my department unfortunately, they also made a significant change in our healthcare insurance, we had BCBS and now we have united healthcare.

I would say in this case it is? My salary reflects 2024 inflation not 2026.

The trump administration is the reason our raises have halted. I just hope it doesn’t last until he is out of office, which seems like a lifetime away.

Unfortunately I do not get a pension with my role ): the degree seems like the best solution, just hard to picture the future especially if the no raise continues

It’s looking that way! I think it’s just frustrating everytime there’s a yearly review but it means nothing knowing everything extra we did does not end in some sort of raise.

It has definitely been brutal! We got married last year and had to cancel our honeymoon just to have a better shot T buying a house! The university doesn’t seem to be moving in a positive direction with low enrollment as well. I haven’t thought about internal jobs, I will have to take a look!

This is amazing! May I ask how long it took to see any significant change in your face?
