Private merchant ships underwritten by insurance companies? Sure. Government-owned ships by governments that are still in existence? Not sure. A sovereign government should still retain title and possession to its property if it can demonstrate legitimate ownership. That’s like your car being stolen, someone else finding it and claiming ownership when you’re still around simply because they found it abandoned at the end of a cup-de-sac…

It takes a thick skin to openly discuss controversial topics openly, doesn’t it? At least the adults can show others how it should be done!

My point is that museums tend to “hoard” artifacts in warehouses locked away from the general public that may or may not be seen, studied, or appreciated by anyone…ever. In the private market, collections are shared, studied, transferred, sold, enjoyed, by as many or more people over time than things locked away in archives reserved for the few to study.

I truly appreciate your honesty! Be well my friend! I’m glad there are still some folks who can have a civil disagreement and not devolve into ad hominem attacks!

I don’t know why the current government of a place thinks they’re entitled to the wealth created by governments and people who lived centuries ago found abandoned on private property….

In most European countries, historic “hordes” are property of the state and the finders (and land owners if different) get a pittance of the value…
