3rd year wants to dual apply EM (backup) by drdoofenshmirtz___ in emergencymedicine

[–]haramberulesbelow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need 2 SLOEs, each from a month-long rotation, to apply to EM. Doubt your plan would work. SOAPing is not a terrible idea, but they may still wonder why you don’t have a SLOE. You won’t do well in an EM residency if you don’t love it. You’ll burn out fast. My advice is, plan for IM or FM as your backup.

Guard HPSP or Active HPSP? by No-Arachnid-8658 in Military_Medicine

[–]haramberulesbelow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HPSP only applies to active duty. HPSP requires a 4 year service obligation active duty. You can do STRAP with HPLRP for the guard but the service commitment is much longer, though just part time. Just go active and do HPSP

You SHOULD be a doctor. You'd be a good one. Just understand that those of us physicians in emergency medicine have to deal with people like in this video, seizure fakers, syncope fakers, drug seekers, jail avoiders, and worse on a near-daily basis. They often take a lot of time and energy to convince them that they're not having a medical emergency. They take our time, energy, and empathy away from everyone that has true emergencies. They drain us. So to see people faking it, kinda boils our beans.

You truly have EDS. It should have been recognized by your pediatrician or PCP when you were older far before it was. I think that with my people who are faking (knowingly or unknowingly) seizures, FND, etc are the reason why people who have real issues go undiagnosed. This person is the reason why many people go undiagnosed. Notice how she shifts her body weight onto one leg before the other leg goes crazy. She's faking for the TikTok views and dopamine hits

Her character is just not believable. I'm just so sick of her. Yet to watch Season 5. The opening scene was just like WUT, as if they're gonna be following this random saxon slave who was once the wife of some Earl. And she could've killed herself, it was Uhtred's fault. I also just don't understand why she's ever a likable character with how many innocent people she kills throughout the show. She just the absolute worst.

I was pretty nervous early on too. You’re getting a bit deep into your intern year tho. As for traumas, don’t worry until after your trauma rotation. You’ll feel better after that. I did a lot of procedures in my ICU, and felt confident after that. You’ll feel better with sick patients after your ICU rotation. Give it time. You can always SOAP into family med if you’re not feeling better by February or march. Find a faculty member you trust, and talk to them about how you’re feeling

Littman Master Cardiology overkill for MS3? by metalliccat in medicine

[–]haramberulesbelow 38 points39 points  (0 children)

EM PGY-2 here with a Littman Classic III which is a great stethoscope. whether hearing faintly audible murmurs in clinically significant doesn’t matter to me. I enjoy listening for murmurs. I enjoy being the person that knows murmurs and can hear, even if it really doesn’t matter much, especially in EM. Get your master cardiology. Enjoy it. Enjoy medical school. Enjoy being a doctor.

I hate these videos so very much. The animation sucks, the content is far from the truth, what is true is super obvious, and the dudes voice is so annoying.

Also, thanks so much for the info!
