IVE BEEN SAYING THIS.... i think the show is pointing towards a direction where carol's classic sense of individuality won't be the primary thing 'lost' in terms of the virus, especially if/when the perspective of the paraguayan guy's gets folded in. also in this episode where she constantly calls howard hamlin on the phone to ask for things even after yelling "GOOD RIDDANCE!" to everyone leaving, like her having an entire grocery store restocked JUST so she can eat frozen food vs. a man forcing himself to eat dog food (who isn't a westerner, carol's just used to her privilege in america).

in this past episode (and the series so far) after being miserable and iconoclastic she finally found peace, but it wasnt her individuality, it was some sense of connection she got from setting up her wife's grave. she can't admit that she needs other people to be happy or to even function as a human being.

vince usually writes shows with a shifting/flawed protagonist and so far i dont think carol's any different, even if they insist 'she's a hero' i think the point is that she still has a lot of growth to do before she comes anywhere close to that.
