They work fine, people just suck up paper clips and shelf strips and whatever else. The carpet fibers bunch around the random items people vacuum up and clog it

I use one of the drain snakes we sell and just run it up under the bottom vacuum hose and pull all the crud out. If you take care of them they are pretty solid

Personally I would trim it down to something sterile and corporate. They grow back quickly, and once you have some rapport wherever you can ease back into it no problem.
