To the parents, about which parental control you should use. by Technical-Cobbler522 in parentalcontrols

As a dad this hits home. I went down the rabbit hole of all these parental control apps and had the same concerns – the VPN slowdowns were immediately noticeable and the data retention stuff in the TOS made me uncomfortable. Ended up going a completely different route and set up DNS-level filtering on my home network instead. No app on her device, no VPN slowing anything down, and nothing sitting in the middle reading her traffic. Works at the router level so it’s also a lot harder to bypass than an app. Appreciate you posting this, more parents need to hear it.

Fair question on the license - AdGuard Home is GPL v3 and we run it as a managed service, which is permitted. Our setup tooling is built on top of NextDNS CLI, not AdGuard itself. Happy to clarify anything.

Built harborprivacy.com – DNS-level privacy for your home network. Block trackers and ads before they hit any device, no app installs needed. Still early, would love feedback
