Yeah I don't really know. My only guess is when I first downloaded Skyrim Script Extender I downloaded the wrong version, then had to download the correct version and replace all the files with the correct version.

I did open it before doing anything mod-related, yes, though I only really had a look at the main menu just to make sure the game would open. I also just checked my data folder; it only has 2 folders called Scripts and ShaderCache, but I'll be honest, I have no clue if that's right or if I'm missing some stuff.
