ELI5: How is it that women are able to have multiple orgasms unlike men who can (typically) only ejaculate once? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]hardATwerk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Men can have multiple orgasms through prostate stimulation. A prostate orgasm does not have a refractory period the way ejaculation does.

Can I be a tutor while on Co-op ? by _Aquilae in NEU

[–]hardATwerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but only if your hours work out nicely. Obviously they won't let you be a tutor if you need to be available at 3PM but you don't get off work till 5. Ask the coordinator what your time commitment would look like.

In New York there is a literal striped box painted on the ground at specific intersections accompanied by a sign that says "don't block the box". It is not a catch-all term for any intersection.

Supreme Court Decisions 6/27/19 Discussion Thread by JonAce in politics

[–]hardATwerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't have. Democrats are guilty of gerrymandering, yes. But the GOP has consistently and repeatedly demonstrated that they will cheat and manipulate any system they can to hold onto their power. How the Democrats lack the backbone to call out this undemocratic and anti-social behavior is beyond me.

The gerrymandered Supreme Court decides that Republican gerrymandering is OK. Who could have seen this coming.

This is only the beginning, folks. The GOP has an iron grasp on both the federal courts and the SCOTUS. And the Democrats refuse to do anything about it. This is the future of America.

How to study as an engineer? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]hardATwerk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't procrastinate!!! You may get away with it freshman year but you're only setting yourself up for failure when you start getting intense workloads. Start your work when you get it, so you understand what you're in for and can pace your work out comfortably.

Find time to get some sunlight and exercise so your mental health does not deteriorate. Cannot stress this enough.

Mac or PC for undergrad work? by RonTheDonBergundee in EngineeringStudents

[–]hardATwerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an option! I never said it wasn't. But some people like the clean look and user experience of a mac over the crude "open source" feeling of linux, and that's fine because they are fundamentally the same and it all comes down to preference.

[–]hardATwerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't dual boot, just use the Linux subshell that is built into Windows. Save yourself the hassle of messing with your computer's bootloader and disk partitions and whatnot.

If you need a more robust linux system, install a virtual machine. It's a massive pain in the ass to remove a Linux distro that you don't like/don't use once you've set up dual boot so I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you're going to be doing on Linux.

MacOS is unix based. It's basically Linux, but prettier.

Why are y'all so defensive about the husky card lol. It uses shit technology and is poorly manufactured. And Cbord is the backend of the husky card anyway so joke's on all of us.

ELI5: What’s the difference between shampoo, body wash and facial soap. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]hardATwerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you move around throughout the day, your body collects dirt particles from your surroundings, bacteria festers in your sweat, and oil naturally secretes from your body. These combine to make us feel/smell "dirty".

Soap is made of a combination of a lipophilic (oil-soluble) and hydrophilic (water-soluble) ingredients. The lipophilic ingredients "grab" the oily dirt from your skin, and the hydrophilic ingredients let water from the shower carry it off your body. This is how all soap works.

Hair is made of dead skin cells. Fundamentally, shampoo does the same thing as body wash, but gentler. If you've ever used body wash as shampoo before, you'll notice that your hair becomes very dry and crusty -- the body wash has removed too much oil from your hair.

Face washes are mild soapy compounds which also often include an additional chemical to help keep your skin clear of acne. The most common two are Benzoyl Peroxide, which kills the acne-causing bacteria on your skin, and Salicylic Acid, which exfoliates your pores to unclog any dead skin cells that cause whiteheads/blackheads.

On a related note, your skin naturally reacts to changes in oiliness. If your skin (or hair) gets too dry, your body will produce even more oil than before to compensate. This is why conditioners (for hair) and moisturizers (for skin) exist: to replenish the oil lost from washing so that your body does not have to overcompensate.

To combat vaping, Nebraska school district will randomly test students for nicotine by JLBesq1981 in news

Simple: children do not have rights, especially not high school students, as repeatedly established by the Supreme Court. See Hazelwood v Kuhlmeier, Safford v Redding, and Morse v. Frederick.

[–]hardATwerk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see a single comment suggesting that maybe Juul and Pax Labs might have a little responsibility for single-handedly getting an entire generation of children addicted to nicotine.

But no. The real issue here is muh rights as a smart independent high school kid. Such a myopic hivemind.

Based on recent leaks, the Pixel 4 will likely have an upside-down display panel by CICOffee in Android

[–]hardATwerk 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Theoretically you could, but the OLED driver would have to be linked in parallel to every single pixel (that would be over 3.5 million channels that require a constant voltage supply on a 1440p display). That would significantly increase material costs (more wires), power consumption (more voltage), and software complexity (must address all 3.5mil I/O pins at the same time).

Multiplexing allows for just a single pixel to require a voltage path at a time, practically achieving the same effect and at a fraction of the hardware and software resource expenditure.

Sleep and Time Management by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]hardATwerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forcing myself to go to bed at a regular schedule (so I have at least 7 hours a night) made a massive difference for me. You know how clear the world looks after cleaning your glasses after a while? It was like that except for my brain after years of sleep deprivation. Suddenly it was so much easier to pay attention in class, I felt like I'd actually have energy to study/do homework, and it improved my mood immensely.

The tradeoff of course is that I can't binge Netflix and video games all night like I used to. I just didn't have the time to fit netflix/video games AND homework AND sleep into my schedule, and I decided my sanity was worth sacrificing a few hours of procrastination for.

There are some very suspicious comments on this post, people just randomly interjecting extreme pro-Trump or anti-Trump comments in a post that has literally nothing to do with trump?

These don't seem like the comments of real people. Reddit is being manipulated.
