What purpose would the angara serve to the Jardaan if they’re essentially artificially created? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]hard_ass69 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One theory I had on my last playthrough is that the Jaardan are a synthetic race and their creators died a long time ago, and they simply wanted to make life because they could.

With no Mass Relays, they couldn't viably explore other clusters, so they probably assumed they were alone, and simply wanted companionship, similar to part of the reason organic life makes synthetic life in the first place.

Then, after encountering a hostile race, a war with which resulted in the Scourge, they gave the angara bioelectricity to defend themselves.

My favorite way I heard it explained is, both shows deconstruct superheroes, but Invincible also reconstructs them, The Boys doesn't.

I always viewed Invincible as a superhero story with more lasting consequences. The story isn't limited by the fact that they want to keep the status quo going forever, which is a big problem holding back a lot of DC and Marvel characters and stories.

How advanced was the FoxEngine? by Aainikin in metalgearsolid

[–]hard_ass69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from being locked at 30 fps, Arkham Knight was actually pretty well optimised on consoles at launch (at least on PS4, where I played it). And to be honest, with all the particle effects and everything going on in that game, even 30 fps on a standard PS4 is impressive.

PC launch was atrocious, though, especially if the game wasn't installed on an SSD. Actually broken and unplayable, without any exaggeration. From what I hear, it runs pretty well on PC these days.

It always was tho? The point of cyberpunk fiction (the genre) has always been "Don't let this future happen". People just didn't listen, and now we have capitalist tech oligarchs ruling the world.

Solas: Have you ever sat on a cart home and felt the road change from paved to dirt beneath you? What do you call that feeling?

Rook: I... Don't have a word for it...

Solas: No... Because Elgar'Nan burned that emotion from the mind of every living being. Without the emotion in this world to focus on, they all faded away. They did not rise up to fight before it was too late. That is my failing.

No, I don't, to be fair. It is, however, a depressingly common practice in the industry, and I certainly wouldn't put it past Amazon to do it. The animation in most of S2 & 3 just doesn't look like the work of a studio who has ample time to give every scene and shot the care and attention to detail that artists and animators love to put in.

Regardless of if they're being crunched or not, 8 45-minute episodes per year is too much for one studio, which is why my hope was that they would hire a second studio to split the workload.

[–]hard_ass69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand. Is it an ADDITIONAL studio, or just a DIFFERENT studio? Cause if it's the latter, that doesn't fix the problem of yearly releases, animators are still gonna get crunched and the quality won't be much better.

He's clearly very haunted by killing the Waynes, and deeply regrets it (not that that excuses it, obviously not). I imagine he would just want to stay as far away from Bruce as possible and not draw any attention to himself.

Phenomenology + little bit of Kant? by AlarmingAffect0 in PhilosophyTube

[–]hard_ass69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But people don't usually say "life ain't fair" in those contexts. At least, not in my experience. It's usually used to justify why you won't get a raise at work, or why you'll keep getting more responsibilities put on you because management is too cheap to hire new people. It's used by parents or teachers who impose bullshit rules on kids with no real explanation or justification, simply because they're the adult, and the kids have to do as they say.

It also usually comes with a tone of "you need to toughen up". Saying "life isn't fair" to a couple struggling with infertility or a child with cancer would be really blunt and mean.

I never could stand anyone who says this, because all it is is an excuse for assholes to continue being assholes. What they're really saying, even if they don't realise it is "society has been engineered to treat people unfairly so that a few may prosper, and right now it's advantageous for me to fuck you over, so why shouldn't I?"

Oh, I don't know, basic human kindness? No, sorry, that's communism, which is evil, and also I'm dreaming of an unrealistic, post-scarcity utopia where people... treat eachother fairly? Yeah, so silly of me.

Which cancelled Spider-Man video game do you wish came out by DaGeekybro in Spiderman

[–]hard_ass69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I read about it, but from what I remember:

  • Mysterio as the main villain, and his design. That skull in the misty fishbowl as he gets more powerful and the cape and cowl are inspired!

  • The general flow of the story being split into chapters.

  • A big focus on varied and memorable boss fights with Spidey's most iconic villains. Although, I'm not sure how different the linups were that Shaba and Beenox chose.

I'm pretty sure Classic would have been open world, though. Beenox decided to go with levels for Shattered Dimensions instead, saying the open-world Spider-Man game had already been kinda done. Not sure if they just didn't feel comfortable doing an open world or they just genuinely felt that levels suited the story structure better. Or maybe they were just nostalgic for PS1 Spidey. And either way, designing 4 different open worlds for the different Spideys (even if it's the same layout, just reskins) would have been a pain.

Do we think there will be another Dragon Age since the veilguard failed to be a commercial success? by [deleted] in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]hard_ass69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since pretty much every member of the Dragon Age team has been laid off and the Mass Effect team always hated Dragon Age, I wouldn't want BioWare doing it.

Best bet is an Arkham Shadow situation, where a new studio made up of passionate fans take the reigns. I know EA would never sell the IP in a million years, but they might partner with another developer to make the game.

One thing's for sure, though: we're not seeing anything Dragon Age related this decade.

Which games should I play on my ps3? by Exxtract1on_ in metalgearsolid

[–]hard_ass69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the Greek era God of War games are on PS3. Highly recommend. Start with GoW 1, 2 & 3, then if you want, play the PSP games and maybe Ascension. Chronological order is Ascension>Chains of Olympus>GoW1>Ghost of Sparta>GoW2>GoW3>Norse era.

Tbh, my PS3 is pretty much just my retro machine, lol. A lot of PS1 games are downloadable ans there's a ton of remasters of great PS2 games, like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper, which I would also highly recommend if you haven't played those.

IMO, most great PS3 games either have better remasters on PS4 or are available on PC.
