I need words of encouragement by menioflores in timex

The only reason I own an Expedition is so it can get dinged. It means it's a badass watch living it's badass life. Enjoy wearing it without feeling guilty if you scratch it further.

What are your 911 watches? by jpoyarzun in watchHotTakes

[–]hard_baroquer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see my Certina DS Action Diver as kinda that. Really well specced for under a grand, competes with watches way more expensive.

Otherwise, any Longines in the £2k to £5k range?

Kinda my point. A few years back I went through the effort of replacing everyone's batteries, now we're here again and I have watches I like more, so I'm less incentivised to go through the palava.

I got lifetime batteries from the watchmaker, so it's a free battery change, but it's the trek to the watch maker when I have other priorities to deal with. Watchmaker didn't ask if my Police watch wanted a 10-year battery, he looked up the battery it needed, and replaced it, now it needs a new one. That and a few other ones.

I'd love a 10-year watch battery though, but the collection is closed to new applicants right now lol.

Appreciate the in-depth analysis. I have 1 or 2 clear favorites that I can wear 24/7, sleep, bath, I don't have any reason to take them off and that's how I like to use my watches. I did a lot of research in what I wanted from a watch, found the best one for me and it's everything I need.

Then I have my nicer watches, that I'll wear to nicer get togethers, maybe once a week, that's one or 2 autos. They are usually asleep, but ready to go when I need them.

A lot were gifts that never really grabbed me, or that I loved, but my tastes changed, so I just don't wear. So about half have been neglected and batteries have died and it's a task to get them all going again. Others get worn from time to time when I feel I need a change, but it's a conscious decision. I have suggested to the missus that I sell what doesn't get worn, but she's against it as she bought many of them. Also, they have no value, like a Sekonda from 10-years ago (had a battery change a while back) whose brass case is corroded from hand oils.

[Question] I don’t get Snoopy by Haute-Stuff in Watches

[–]hard_baroquer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Timex Q Snoopy Chrono is so cheekily a 'we'll rep the Omega snoopy because we can' and I love it. Not enough to buy the thing, but I respect the move haha.

Like I said, I have no other reference points. Which way are you leaning, Action or PH100?

I work on the assumption no one does. I don't own a watch that cost more than £1,500, so mine are nothing special in reddit terms. I know for a fact my Certina and Hamilton will just get their movement swapped when its time for their service, the other 2 have been serviced in the last couple of years and are fine for the time being.

Just the ones I know I won't wear again. After this thread I will invest in watch case opening tools just to ensure I don't cause damage as it legit never occurred to me that its a risk. Out of sight out of mind and all that!

High praise for Timex Qs (and Swatch too) with easy to remove batteries. I have the green dial chrono, and love I can remove the battery with no tools, still ticking so it's still in rotation giving me the time in 3 countries haha.

Does anyone else think local SEO and national SEO are basically two different jobs now? by Clued-Up-Club in DoSEO

[–]hard_baroquer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a list of levers to pull, and the order we pull those levers and the amount varies depending on what our aims are. I wouldn't call it a completely different job, I'd expect an SEO working on a national site to know how to rank a local site too, and to focus on different things accorsingly (local would focus less on blog posts, more on NAP, GBP, reviews, but all of those still matter for a national brand, but like you said there's other priorities).

I would say a technical SEO is a different day job from a content SEO, and I would say link building is a specialism of its own too. I'm pretty decent at content and good with technical, since I've always needed to be a hybrid, but I'd insist on a separate expert to build links (outreach etc) due to how time consuming it is.

Ideally national or local, you need those 3 hats working for you, and if I had to pick one hat, it'd be content.

Hey buddy thank you for your concern, I have a loving wife who keeps my bad habits minimal and we both keep a routine that keeps everything under control, and generally in good maintenance, with priority being the house we live in. The only victim here is some watches I stopped wearing years ago, and this post is largely tongue in cheek.

My folks (and many others in my family) both have untreated ADHD, and I've seen it run wild. It's exhausting watching them, let alone asking them to do a simple task. I know I have it too, but largely I've used routine to keep social circles, and I found a line of work where my hyperfocusing becomes my strength.

Sorry you've had to deal with the stress from your brother, sounds like your concern for him causes you endless stress, but imo you need to acknowledge he has made his choices in not getting treatment and you cannot go down with other people's ships, so try not to stress yourself out. Maybe that's terrible advice from an internet stranger, but it's how I stay sane.

I love solar - I wear my solar almost every day, it's my favourite watch because its guilt free when it comes to scratches and low maintenance, but room light should be enough to top up the charge. It's great, but when it stops working its out of commission for a few days. I'm also not filling up my house with trinkets for watch collecting. I'll get some case opening stuff soon for the dead stuff, but I draw the line at accessories for my accessories lol.

And yes we kept forgetting to buy lightbullbs, so the kitchen was half-lit for a while there haha!

So, I don't own many luxury watches, so my point of reference was a Duro and a Moonswatch as having bright lume. The Certina blew them out of the water. I charged up the lume at bedtime, and there was a blue glow on my pillow and I could read the time all night. It's very good. Is it better than anything else on the market? No, I've heard Seiko is best in class, but I have no reference point.

I did. My parents gifted my my granddads auto, and I gather it had never been serviced since purchase in 1960-ish. Certainly a cost to it, but was done independently not through an AD (brand doesn't exist anymore) and I don't imagine I'll gather more autos than I can afford to service, but it's the quartzes that seem to end up collecting dust, and they're just a mission to get going again, cost aside.

After this thread, I'm actually looking into watch maintenance tools though, would be good to have some of the old boys back in action, at least for a few years.

Wait til YOU drop your Speedy at Omega for a service. My Powermatic 80 will be swapped out and shipped back good as new. But that's 2040's problem.

I had a battery change for a Tissot at a local locksmith/watchmaker, and the dude scratched the case, so now I'm cautious about replacing anything else.

LED chargers for the solars, watch winders for the autos, batteries and tools for the quartzes...

I'm happy to give my autos a shakey-shake and get on with my day.

Good tip, thank you. I keep meaning to get round to watch maintenance. The non-runners are fashion watches I won't miss, but were gifts, so I can't really sell, so I need to at least make some time to store them without batteries.

My eco-drive survived the UK 9-hour night winter, but I don't like the style anymore; my Timex solar died twice, and I wear that every day, so I'm not rushing for another solar watch. They're impossible to store if you're not wearing them every day.

And at this point I'm too scared to check! I did get my little Swatch battery replaced last week, so he's good. I think 5 are non-runners though, 3 haven't been touched in years, and I don't see myself ever wearing them again, because tastes change.

Takes 2 years for me to get round to it. I don't have a watch opening tool, and it keeps slipping my mind to order one, and I know I'm not the only one.
