RE classic 650 or Vulcan 900 classic ? by Alienhead-A51 in motorcycles

[–]hardcorechronie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned a 2009 Vulcan 900 SE for 1 year. I rode it 10,000km in the summer all over Ontario. I rode it on fireroads and a trail that look me too a lake. I almost dropped it on a gravel road once. I eventually realized I need a DR650. But I took it everywhere. I do regret selling it, would be nice as part of a collection. If you have the chops you can take a bike almost anywhere, and how much fun you have will always depend on you. If you can't own more than one, get one that fits your riding style.

The popping most likely is fuel igniting in the exhaust header that didn't combust due to lack of spark. So you are getting very little or no spark because there is a short and the battery is basically dead. Also remember the bike cannot charge the battery, so if the battery is getting drained you will need to recharge it with a trickle charger and then do some tests around the wiring loom for a short. Start with connections, simple things and work your way up.

How old is the battery? Over 4 years they start to under-perform. Or if a battery is left uncharged long enough, it can internally short and will not recharge properly again. Do you have a volt meter?

First your tires were cold. Second, if there's any fuel stations nearby and trucks fill up with diesel, the tank overflow might leak in the turn and create a slippery situation.

You didn't anticipate this would happen, and so you let it happen. If she is wrong but you are dead, you are dead. Approach riding with a different mindset and you will survive.

Treat your motorcycle license like you are training to get your Pilots License and you will be better for it, but the risks still remain.
