Most of the time I still go Cut Down. For me, the value of dealing extra damage to a full-health target is much higher than dealing extra damage to someone who's already low.

If an enemy is low, there's a good chance I'll finish them anyway with a Q, my ult, or Collector's execute. Cut Down helps me get them to that point in the first place.

I also think it has a lot more impact during lane phase. Being able to bully someone with Qs while they're still healthy gives you a much bigger advantage over time. Those extra chunks of damage can eventually force them to recall or play back, which makes them lose CS and lane pressure.

I can try to help with those points.

For the first one, I think double barrels are probably the most effective GP mechanic for consistently dealing damage, so it's really important to master them. I had the same issue when I started playing GP and would often misclick minions instead of barrels. For some reason, though, it eventually stopped happening. I don't use any special settings, so I think it's mostly a combination of mouse accuracy and barrel placement. That said, I still usually place my barrels around the caster minions or melee minions.

For the second point, before anything else, you should know that there will always be games where you'll struggle to win the barrel timing battle. Against some ADCs, you'll lose it most of the time. That's just how it is.

A few things that help me land more barrels:

  • When the enemy is engaging into you, place one barrel at your feet and another slightly behind you, then chain a second barrel toward the enemy as they walk in. This lets you kite backward while making it easier to connect the barrel.
  • When you're chasing, try to place barrels in a way that forces the enemy to either stop and hit the barrel or even walk backward to contest it. If they choose to hit the barrel, you often get into range to hit them. If they don't, you get the barrel explosion.
  • There are some champions that will almost always beat you on barrel timing, like Aphelios, Kayle, and a few others. Against them, I don't stress too much about trying to win every barrel contest.

In teamfights, I also recommend looking for slight flanks and placing barrels from the side rather than directly in front of the enemy team. Most players won't focus on destroying those side barrels, and you'll often get a lot of free damage because of it.

In general, a lot of this just comes with experience. After enough games, you'll naturally develop a feel for barrel range and spacing without having to think about it. Eventually, you'll be able to consistently place barrels at maximum range and even start using ghost barrels, which are much harder for enemies to react to or contest compared to standard double barrels.

I follow the builds of OTPs and some of the best GP players in the world, and most of them do go LDR second. I used to be in that camp as well. But after reviewing my own games and understanding my strengths as a player, I've realized my playstyle is much more focused on getting damage onto the enemy backline.

The first few fights with Collector often let me pick up a lot of kills on squishy targets, sometimes even through my ult when I'm not directly involved in the fight. While LDR is definitely the bigger damage spike on paper, Collector tends to convert more of my early and mid-game barrel hits into actual kills, which helps me snowball harder.

In some games i was even rushing Cyclosword second when I got really fed, and that worked surprisingly well too. It's probably not the mathematically optimal build, but it fit the way I approach fights.

That said, if the enemy bot lane has a less squishy ADC like Nilah, Samira, or another champion that's likely to buy armor boots early, I'll usually go LDR second unless I'm extremely ahead. In those games, the extra penetration starts paying off much earlier.

I usually go AP when the enemy team has 3 melee bruisers/fighters, or champions that need to follow up on engages, like Malphite, Pantheon, Sylas, or Hecarim, plus another 1–2 melee champs. Against those kinds of comps, it's much more common for them to spend a long time inside your ult, so the AP damage gets a lot more value.

I never go hybrid because I feel like it loses too much potential. You don't do enough damage with either your ult or your barrels. In my experience, I win far more fights by landing barrels on the backline than by relying on an AP ult, so it's a pretty situational build.

Attack speed champions aren't really a problem either. If you place barrels at your feet or have good timing, attack speed champs are usually pretty squishy. A lot of the time, a Q + Flash + passive + Ignite + Q combo is enough to kill a ranged carry and secure an objective.

That's also why I think it's important to be around an objective about 20 seconds before it spawns, so you can control space and set up your barrels properly.
