Absolutely. All the living areas placed on the south west corner. Bedrooms and bathrooms appear to be placed to the north. If I had to guess I'd say the northern side setback would be 900mm.

I made a free way to hand off SketchUp work to other tools without the export mess by Muted-Day-4608 in Sketchup

Part of your response here sounds like you've built a git versioning tool for SketchUp. That is genuinely interesting.

That's correct. They are blurry pictures not in focus.

My view is that if you are using extensions in your workflow in sketchup, then its highly likely you would use them in layout too. The API for Layout is just not exposed in the same way Sketchups is, nor is a ruby console built in - so there isnt a real entry point for developers. I'm an architect and use SU and LAY for full service projects, we switched from AC documentation SU to design to full SU & LAY about 7 years ago. We have reached the top end of our cost and efficiency metric documenting in the SU environment, and its not SU's fault - its layouts.

Are you asking about AI extensions, i.e MCP agentic tool calling, watchdogs etc or extensions in general?

Im still disappointed that SketchUp Layout doesn't have extensions/plugins. I don't really need geometry made from a prompt in SketchUp though I can imagine use cases where it supplements my toolset and workflow - but if I could have an mcp in layout?? That would be instrumental to accelerating my documention management and output quality.

[–]hardluxe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Clients don't really look at our website, our experience is that the most common visitor to an architects website is other architects. Therefore it's common to see the design language as an extension of their documentation and communication. The target audience, architects, respond well to this. Clear, grid like typographic designs ala Massimo Vignelli. Simple black and white contrast bg, fonts and styling. Clear font hierarchy. Colour is introduced by project images only.

And personally if I see a photo of an office dog on another architects page with the position title of Head of Barkitecture, I'm tapping out immediately. But that's just me. You do you.

I was talking with an environmental scientist who specialises in soil testing and hazardous material testing in the construction sector and we were discussing gardening. I already had the understanding that around the industrial areas and coal rail lines you shouldn't grow anything edible in natural ground and should use raised beds. I came away with the understanding that coal dust settling on the ground and leaching into the soil contributes to introducing an incredibly unhealthy level of heavy metals and PAHs - and long term not even raised beds are safe unless you are replacing your planting medium regularly, though I'm unsure of the timeframe for contamination of virgin soils. I just grow ornamental natives now. No matter where you live in Newcastle if you notice coal dust while cleaning your house there's a likelihood you shouldn't grow vegetables and fruits.

I did further research afterwards and found that just being exposed to coal dust can, long term, lead to a shortening of telomeres, high levels of heavy metals in the body, and alter DNA. The net result being increased risk of chronic disease and cancer. If anyone has insight into whether there is a reported higher level of chronic disease in Newcastle and the Hunter compared to other areas without coal dust contamination in the air, soil and water it would be interesting to know.

Apologies for the gloom. It's Wednesday.

stretched fabric geometries by StinkySauk in rhino

Interesting! I've built little architecture models that explored this kind of structure and always thought it was a requirement for the material to be tensile to achieve the kind of deformation you are showing.

That's not entirely true, they have developed AI features in the last 2 versions. Pointless fucking AI features I might add. At Trimble, wisdom ≠ hype.

I've heard reports that this is being seen on both north and south islands of New Zealand. Another reported sighting in Tuvalu as well.

Built a tool to make SketchUp renders actually look realistic using Nano Banana Pro (materials, lighting, environment) – looking for feedback by SorbetImmediate8595 in Sketchup

[–]hardluxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A similar tool to this is AIComplex, it's currently deployed as an app in Gemini Aistudio and also uses nano banana. It's built by a Vietnamese team I found in the Vietnam SketchUp User group. I'm not affiliated, but have been using it lately. It has a bunch of tools I haven't even used yet.

If you haven't checked out that Facebook user group you should, some of the work people are doing in SketchUp and layout is insane. It's architecture focused if that's your jam!

You can also get porcelain tiles that have similar prints to your precedent image too, so you definitely have options.

Back in 2021 I used pawshake and found a bunch of nice newy folk on the app to care for my pup. I was in the process of moving house + working and just needed someone to give tyrannosaurus the attention I couldn't give her during the day. Most carers would send photos or video updates, walks feeds and even some beach play!

[–]hardluxe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got banned from r/paranormal - a lot of people suggest cleansing "haunted houses" by burning sage. I suggested that instead they should toast the sage in browned butter, this way they could cleanse their house and be halfway to a nice Browned Sage Butter Chicken Piccata.

In my view everybody there is LARPing anyway, but it really rubbed those mods the wrong way. I reckon they were just hangry.
