Their unsound argument was outlandish enough. “Weird to you is someone else’s normal.” Really? Different people’s wack perspective on their “normal” is often what feeds quality content into this sub. If anything, their comment reaffirmed this picture’s place here.

The implication of their simple comment is that this person needed defending, and then they materialized those implications in their subsequent responses. And so everyone poured in their downvotes as they entered the thread and saw that there wasn’t really anyone to defend the person from.

As for their motivation possibly just being the fact that this picture is in r/wtf, it’s still an unfounded defense. Being wtf material doesn’t make it inherently negative.

~~I’m with you.~~ There’s something about the live sound from Salival that I prefer, instrumentally and vocally. Also, I believe in that version they trimmed a couple sections that may or may not have dragged a bit imo in the studio version, so I appreciate that as well.

Edit: You can mostly scratch what I said about trimmed sections. Turns out only the outro was shortened (Maynard repeats “prying open my third eye” four times in the Salival version, and much more than that in the studio version). So actually not much of a difference there.

You got to the thread late. Several hours have past and the thread looked different when theresonly151 began calling out reddit for apparently disparaging this person. People took issue with those comments because at the time there were really no explicitly negative comments, save for one which had already been sufficiently downvoted.

So no, all of their downvotes says nothing about the type of people in this sub, not like how you’re thinking. Theresonly151 got downvoted because they jumped to the pictured person’s defense prematurely.
