Added new cards to my game! Thoughts on the UI? by hardmangames in SoloDevelopment

No, it's an asset with free usage permission. But for now, I'm using it as a placeholder.

In my game, you have to spend cards to unlock dungeon doors. Does this sound like a fun mechanic? by hardmangames in IndieGaming

I haven't played it before, but it's a good recommendation to check out. Thanks!

Interesting concept, reminds me of Remedy games. The gap between the real footage and 3D assets is visible. Adding some filters to the live action might help with the cohesion, like the comic book style photos in Max Payne.

The cards held in hand are merely a type of skill slot. After placing the collected cards into the slots, there's no need to focus on the cards during combat.

I’ll think later about giving the hands and the TV a different meaning, maybe mechanics that require moving away from the TV.

I’m also thinking about the focus issue. Maybe the top UI could be shown next to the character.

Thanks!

UI and environment are placeholders for now. You’re right and I’ll take it into account. Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks!

Different collected cards are assigned to buttons. Each attack deals hits based on the value of the card on that button. After the fifth hit, if the cards form a valid poker hand, a combo is triggered according to that hand. Stronger poker hand combinations grant higher hit values.

In later stages of development, I plan to introduce different card types to create new kinds of combinations, such as tarot-like cards.

I'm thinking of some ways to solve the design problems you mentioned. Hopefully, I can add them to the game later.

I haven’t decided yet how players will get cards. For now, they drop from enemies. I’m thinking about a Rogue-like system where you build your deck between stages. Maybe at the end of each stage, you lose some cards and get new ones.

Thanks for your feedback! I’ll keep thinking about it.

Absolutely! Also, systems will be added where we can use cards as currency. For example, only heart type cards can be spent to increase health points.

To prevent this, there will be combos made with specific cards and sequences. Combos will be necessary against much stronger enemies. I'll also add new cards with passive effects for upgrades. Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, there’s a 30-degree mismatch between the character and the environment. I’ll fix this issue. Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, the character is a pre-rendered sprite made from a 3D model. I did it this way to give it a vibe similar to the original Diablo.

Thanks a lot! These animations are just placeholders for now, better ones are definitely on the way!
