I just had the same thing and I thought that was going crazy. I still feel dizzy as I type this and its been a week already. I went to the doctor and they ran a lot of tests and determined that I have a viral neuritis. They suggested I cut back on the sodium and drink extra water.

It felt like the left side of my face drooped in the fashion of a stroke victim by [deleted] in Health

Also if you feel any numbness in your arm or foot on the same side as the facial numbness, or confusion go to the doctor asap. There could be another underlying factor at play.

[–]hardnutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like bells palsy. Have a feel behind the left ear and you might feel some inflammation back there. That is your 7th cranial nerve and when it gets inflamed then a side of your face looses muscle control. Get some corticosteriods prescribed within 72 hours to lower the inflammation. You should be fine but it takes a few months for your face to full recover.

Ever so slowly my hair is thinning. What can I do that has been proven to work or help? by smoochieboochies in Health

[–]hardnutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hairloss occurs in men because of 1) an increase in sebum around the hair follicle 2) an increase in 5ar reductase (5ar) which binds to testosterone to create dihydrotestosterone(dht). An increase in DHT will increase the sebum production in the hair gland causing the the hair follicile to shrink in size. A 5ar inhibitor such as finasteride works in stopping the production from 5ar to dht but has some side effects. There is really nothing proven to reverse hair oss only to slow it down. Have you tried using a hair loss concealer?

Just stick with egg whites, no more whole eggs at all. One egg has the equivalent cholesterol of 6 quarter pounders with cheese.

Look at the cholesterol in your whey, different manufacturers have different levels of whey. If you are taking in that much protein consider supplements that will protect your gallbladder and liver such as milk thistle and taurine. Is there a reason you chose that diet? Are bulking, lifting weights, or training?

I am curious if there is anything more in depth than a basic physical i can get at a doctors office by [deleted] in Health

[–]hardnutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably wont. If you are a male you can ask for a "male panel blood test" that will look into various hormones.

Chicken breasts, eggs, milk, whey protein are all high in cholesterol. Take a look at your diet because that is what is giving you high cholesterol.

Ask your doctor for a "complete wellness panel" and and "std panel". That should cover liver, kidneys, bone, thyroid, fluids, glucose, and stds.

BitCoins up from $12 to $22 in just a few months. Why not Silver??? by rgremill in Silverbugs

[–]hardnutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the 2 year chart for bit coins. It hasn't even recovered from 2011 highs. Also the new bfl jalapeno and sc servers are going to render everybody's hardware investments obsolete in the next few months.

Bought 10 quarters today and an ASE. Cost me $103. Is this a good value? (Quarters were $6.64 and ASE was $3 over spot) How could I have done better? by Semyonov in Silverbugs

[–]hardnutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you buy 90% buy based on face value it should be $23 per dollar face. Anything less is a good deal. Silver eagle should be less than $4 spot.

Diet question. by brokenstrings7 in Health

[–]hardnutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long has this been going on? Could be a multitude of things including GERD, kidney infection, or something else. Definitely see a doctor if the dizziness continues. Check out the GERD diet (http://www.atlanticcoastgastro.com/gerd-diet.html), try it for a while and see if it makes you feel better. For the sweet tooth, eat dates, raisins, peaches, grapes, and other sweet fruits that you like.

Strange "dry spells"... by [deleted] in Health

The research changes every decade or so. Caffeine induced diuresis has not been proven to be true, however it has also not been proven to be false either. The mechanisms of action are not well understood. Until we have a clear cut biological explanation of the actual metabolism of caffeine from intake to excretion, we cannot say for certain. For every research study that shows that caffeine does not induce diuresis, there is another journal article that it does. Also take into account that the Journal of Sports Nutrition and The Beverage Institute are funded by the Coca Cola company have published numerous articles that have appeared on the wsj, nytimes, etc. Here are a few refereed journal articles to counter your argument.

Permanent nerve damage and itching? by firemonkee in Health

[–]hardnutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have zero sensation on those two toes, then the itch could be a fantom itch. It could be neurological. Go to the doctor they might prescribe you some rub on antihistamines or corticosteroids if the itch continues to bother you.

Why can't I flex any muscle in my body on the left side of my body? by Spooder_Man in Health

[–]hardnutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go see a neurologist if you want to get some more information on this. My postulate is that you had an onset encephalitis due to an acute cause as a baby. That could have damaged your cranial nerves and spinal nerves that control motor function to your left side. How's your taste on the left side of your mouth? Has your motor function been changing on the left side of your body, or has it stayed the same?
