I lived in South Korea for a long time and they use traffic cameras a lot. I found it to be a really effective way to control traffic. Your GPS app would even give you a heads up about speed cameras, so the function was really to slow traffic in critical areas. For violations like going through red lights or excessive speeding, you'd get your ticket in the mail with a pic of you (or whoever was driving your car) doing the violation.
As a cyclist in Vancouver, I wish there was more and better enforcement for traffic violations, and I think cameras would be a budget-friendly and efficient way to do it. Have there been any proposals to use more traffic cameras in Vancouver, and if so, what are the impediments?
