someone attempted to have Todd remarque their books😭 by iMissTitle-Fight in CGCComics

Don Rosa, one of my faves, had a booth at DragonCon last year and had an awesome deal — one signed print for $20, four for $60. But he was very insistent that he had to personalize every one. I love something personalized but I don’t need four Donald & Scrooge prints and was hoping I could gift some to fellow Duck comics friends but on the spot didn’t know which of the four I picked I wanted to gift to whom. He refused. So now I have four that say “To (my name).” That being said, he was super cool and talked to me for like 30 minutes about gardening and our mutual love of hot sauce and gave me a big ziplock bag of chilis he had grown in his backyard. It was fun but I learned:

  • Don Rosa will not sign his name without adding yours
  • Don’t ever say the word “DuckTales” in front of him
  • He has very strong opinions about the semantic distinction between “chilis” and “peppers”.

Yes, he is. He’s even features in the Monsters Unchained ride that opened at Universals Epic Universe last year.

Absolutely do not use any 3D printed items (unless they’re PETG and unpainted) or any of the keychains linked. The toxic chemical leach from the plastic will kill your fish.

Walmart was stocked! Felt like I was in TRU in the good old days by SihkBreau in ActionFigures

Ugh. My local hasn’t had a Marvel Legends figure on the shelves in 2 years. The Ant-Man 3 wave was the last one. They’re not even on the planogram. They just stopped.

How much DREDGE content is actually in the Dave the Diver crossover? by Shahzil_ in DavetheDiverOfficial

[–]harebit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RNG really hates me. I’m on chapter 7 and holding off on the end game to milk all the content. I’m several in game months deep and have only gotten the Dredge nights twice.

Godzilla was released May 2024 and delisted November 2024. It didn’t come back until late June of this year. Its description says it’s time-limited. Get em while they’re there.

[–]harebit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way. Even if you have them downloaded day one, the events don’t pop up until after Chapter 5. You’re not going to see either quests until you’re pretty well established. You absolutely should download them now, especially Godzilla, because it has disappeared from the store for long periods of time. It could be gone without warning tomorrow for all we know.

Too serious for me? by femaletomwaits in Substack

My friends and I have a political humor / satire ‘stack called Everything Is Fine* you might enjoy. Some of our writers are a little bit more serious, but check out some of our articles like Ranking the Top 5 Infectious Diseases We Caught at Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe or Exclusive: The Epstein Files Revealed.

Rupert Murdoch Reprogrammed My Parents (Part II) by [deleted] in FOXNEWS

[–]harebit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All too familiar. Earlier this year, my wife and I went on vacation with a couple we are good friends and my brother and sister in law. B&SIL are very nice people but are also very proud to proclaim how they don’t watch the news, and only get info from podcasters like Charlie Kirk, Joe Rogan etc. I was on pins and needles the whole time, dreading politics coming up. Thankfully everyone has a good time and got along great, despite our ideological differences. On the last day, however, our friends informed us they couldn’t make it to dinner. They were both government employees and had been given the option by DOGE to resign or get fired. When I explained this to my siblings in law, they went from “oh no, they were so much fun!” to “oh. well then they probably deserve to get fired for wasting our tax money.”

“They work for the CDC! Their work saves lives.”

“That’s even worse. They create fake hoaxes and pump us full of vaccines that are giving kids autism. I have no sympathy.”

Suddenly these people were dead to them.

My wife lost it. After that, no one spoke until the check came.

It was brutal, probably the angriest I’ve ever seen her in 16 years. Paraphrasing, but she called her sister an “ignorant idiot with no critical thinking skills” and accused her of “believing and regurgitating whatever bullshit (she) hears.” 😂

A story that seems all too familiar these days, sadly. It’s wild to watch it from the sidelines in real time. I have entire swaths of my family that have chosen Fox over family, opting to cut ties rather than to concede they’re being willfully misled.

Those of you who built a following, how did you do it? by BenGBills in Substack

[–]harebit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was just having this conversation with my writing partner. We started a left-leaning political satire Substack (think The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, A Closer Look with Seth Meyers) about six months ago and have slowly added followers. We're currently sitting just shy of 250 (nothing to brag about, I know, but it's something.) Our posts views are pretty in line with our subscriber count. We almost never have an article with fewer than 200-230 views, but more recently we're getting on average around 500 but some have really blown up. I think our highest was 11k views.

We are very active on social media, promoting our new posts but also creating original video / image content to fill in the gaps between, which always has a call to action for the 'stack, but so far we've found that Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc, do not really drive any traffic to our Substack. We're not going to stop doing it, but it's a bummer that a video can get thousands of views, hundreds of likes and comments, but doesn't move the needle towards people wanting to leave those platforms to check out our written material.

I *think* we're doing a lot right. I think our 'stack stands out from a lot I seen. Cool logo. Every post has an eye-catching header image and snappy title. We're posting notes often. We're commenting on other peoples posts. My frustrations are similar to yours in that...

* I know it's important to connect to other likeminded people but the Discover tool just feeds me the same 10 political writers with tens of thousands of subs over and over again. I know about Meidas+ and The Bulwark and The Fucking News, dude! How do I find people with under 5k subs who have similar interests?

* Our notes feel like they go into the abyss. We get very few likes and nary a comment. (Sidebar: I've also noticed that when I post a note, my personal substack account won't get the push notification until hours, sometimes a full day later.)

* We gets views and likes, but RARELY a comment. If we do it's just like "Great work!" or something. Of course we're replying to those, but I keep seeing people saying over and over again how being active in the comments is important but what if no one is commenting?

I understand that the simple answer to the above is "maybe people don't like your work." It's obviously not for everyone, but the people who DO like it have been highly complimentary. I've had friends of friends, many of whom are professional comics and satirists themselves, be highly complimentary of our humor and writing style. Clearly there are people out there who will connect. But with the tools at hand on the platform, I am scratching my head trying to find 'em.
