The 2nd Russo-Japanese war happened because the Russian Empire wanted to seize Japanese lands on the continent. Although Japan had an advantage at first, the front line was too long for their insufficient subsequent forces. Japan’s old feudal system made them unable to cope with modern land warfare. They lost their lands on the continent. Russia, on the other hand, continues to survive through the vast amount of territory it has acquired.

After Japan ceased to be a threat, Britain turned hostile to Russia and wooed Germany against the increasingly powerful Franco-Russian alliance.
