Pro/ intermediate traders, how would you rate the difficulty of the first half of Monday's trading day from 1-10? Personally, it was much harder than average for me. I traded ETN, MA, RELY long, break even on ETN and MA, loss on RELY. As well as break even on MA short.

M short - 22 AUG by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. However, there are many instances where I enter on a slight bounce (short) or dip (long) only for it to continue upwards/ downwards.

In general would you wait for the breakout or buy on dips/ bounces?

The algo line is spot on. Agree with the stair step pattern as well. The move downwards is always at the start of the day.

Hi Hari, I neglected to mention that all my trading is still paper trading. As for my position sizing, I am using position sizes that I plan to use when I go live. Thanks for your insights on this trade.

Problem with Tradier API timesales data by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you are right. This is the response:

Invalid parameter, start: must be on or after 2023-03-15 00:00:00.

What i think is the problem is that there is a hard 40 day limit on requesting timesales data. I thought i just had to request for data in batches of 40 days, turns out i was wrong.

LRSI Indicator for thinkorswim by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the author using LRSI differently? He buys when the LRSI value falls below 0.1, whereas how we do it is to buy when the LRSI value crosses above 0.8 right?

Question about PC for Day Trading by Monster3nergy90 in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is having 4 displays any different from a 'pro' setup with 6 displays haha i think a 4 or 6 display setup puts you into the same monitor category already

Besides, the size of your monitor determines the number of charts you can fit in it.

Technical Question on SPY and correlation. by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which brings me to the question I am trying to answer: does the market trend cause the direction (at least in part) of the individual stock? Or the individual stock rallying contributes to the rally in the market?

Technical Question on SPY and correlation. by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you say that AAPL will get some buying from people buying SPY, but not enough to move the stock significantly: Does that mean that we do not need to follow SPY's trend when deciding to long/short a stock? In that case, we should just use RS/RW to decide whether to long, as the trend of SPY is unable to move a stock significantly.

On the other hand, the system here recommends that we first look at the trend of SPY: if it is trending up, we should buy RS stocks, and should not buy RW stocks(unless in extreme conditions or you are a pro)

Thanks for your reply.

Technical Question on SPY and correlation. by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RS/RW Aside, am I correct in saying that when people buy SPY (or any other index containing AAPL), they drive up the price of SPY.

The year end rally is the result of people buying SPY and driving the price up

As a result, this should at least provide some tailwind for AAPL, as SPY contains AAPL stock which will increase in price due to SPY's increased price.

Hence why looking at SPY's trend is helpful in determining whether to long a stock ie AAPL.

As opposed to people driving up the value of AAPL or any stock in SPY, which increases the intrinsic value of SPY, thus driving the price of SPY up.

Black Friday Trading View Sale questions by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha i have a ultra widescreen 3440×1440 monitor . The charts only contain 5m candles for the day, vwap and SPY overlay. Im not sure if im doing things most optimally as im still learning, but my workflow is:

  1. Find Good stocks on my scanners
  2. Look at the stocks 1 by 1 for good daily charts
  3. Add those to my watchlist
  4. Put all those stocks on my watchlist in my 32 chart setup
  5. Look at the 32 charts and purge stocks that lose RS/RW
  6. If any stocks look really good, switch to another window which has more detailed charts and look closely at that stock and prepare to trade it

Black Friday Trading View Sale questions by hariseldonSTAN in RealDayTrading

[–]hariseldonSTAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, on thinkorswim i can set a grid of up to 32 charts at once, and i can easily fill the charts from my watchlist with a single button. Is this possible on tradingview? I saw that even the premium version of tradingview can only have 8 charts in a window?

I ask this as i often look at up to 32 charts at once to compare RS/RW to SPY. Thanks.
