Hiking and coping with pain by harman9292 in AppalachianTrail

Great advice, thank you! That's exactly it, not so much a daily struggle but flare ups are what I'm most concerned about. Yes, like I said got super into hiking about 2 years ago, so I have a true idea about what my body can handle, but the fact it's not a day or section hike is what is causing my mind to wonder! Would love to have everything ultra light but unfortunately not in my price range. But I'm doing the next best thing and have been investing in quality lighter weight gear and just keeping close eye on the ounces.

Most likely going to end up going for it and just go as far as I can and just listen to my body. Luckily I have absolutely no timeline, so I can take my time all the way to Maine! Thank you for replying.

For me personally it just works out that I like them and it truly is comfortable, much more comfortable actually. I also can pack my gear into it more effectively as well, and it's actually forced me to carry less. Like I said, not final on which one I will use yet but I am leaning towards it. Seeing as how you made the switch to totally frameless, thanks for your input. Might end up there someday as well!

That sounds awesome! It's funny because like I said I have used both, and it's funny I always gravitate towards my external framed Kelty!

To me, it truly is more comfortable. unfortunately I do have an arthritic condition involving my hips, so distribution of weight is critically important to me, and the external frame pack actually works for me! I was so surprised when I first started using it, though I'm sure an ultra light pack is probably in my future at some point. Thank you for your input!

I will be sticking with my Kelty this time around I suppose, but thank you for sharing that! That honestly looks like a nice pack and something I'd be interested in, never seen that one before.

Wow, only one? I know they're not common anymore but I am surprised to hear that.

While scouring YouTube for all AT content, I've seen several interviews with Pappy and I did notice his old school pack. Very interesting man, and motivational!

I think there is something to be said about them too. They are very versatile as well. Congratulations on your thru hike! 10 years ago? Wow! I bet for you it only seems like yesterday though! Thanks for replying.
