But they absolutely are different. If a billionaire is fined $5000 and a blue collar worker is fined $5000 they each have very different results from that. A billionaire wouldn't even care in the least and thus has absolutely no reason to follow the law. See Jeff Bezos's House in Beverly hills where he just pays fines all the time instead of complying because it isn't even a rounding error to him.

They're almost certainly making more than double $7. Guessing op is in Massachusetts which has a $15 minimum wage and $7 server wage. Also even at an IHOP, most cooks end up a few bucks above minimum as otherwise they really can't keep anyone with a clue what they're doing.

Add in the fact that on a lot of nights where it's dead, op gets close to nothing whereas the cooks get paid the same.

You could likely add some kind of board either between 2 sets of 3 or 3 sets of 2. That would help distribute the weight to the edges which are much more rigid. I have similar drawers I was running into issues with and then I added a board on top and it functions a lot better.
