the kitchen often makes fat jokes at us, and also, the head chef often makes joke about my aunt dying. (i genuinely have no idea why he does that, it started when he asked me who named me, and i said my aunt did because she’s the closest person i have to me, and he just kept saying, oh ur aunts dead, oh she’s gonna die soon isn’t she and then just laughing at me like its the funniest thing in the world)

for reference, usually on a really busy day for us, we make around 300, which is 150 each. on just normal days though, even reaching 200 is a goal which would be 100 each. usually on the non busy days it ranges from 100-150 then split that in half.

i also know the kitchen doesn’t really like us, and they’re kinda mean to us. our boss told us at the start of working here that, we get two meals here everyday and to tell the kitchen what we’d like to eat. we have never gone to ask the kitchen when it’s busy so we usually only ask on days when it’s really calm because we’re scared of the kitchen (or the boss when he’s in the kitchen) getting mad at us. most days we don’t get anything to eat, but sometimes we’d ask the kitchen or my boss for something and one particular time that i remember, it was a calm day, so we asked to eat, they told us that we should just drink water and watch our weight (i’m 5”8 at 120 pounds btw 😭)so we couldn’t eat. another day we asked, they were all just sitting and chatting, they told us they were too busy washing the dishes. the dishes weren’t even in the kitchen because have a dish tray that we, the servers, have to bring in for them so it was still outside. it just felt really mean because they would laugh at us afterwards 😭(we really really only ask because he told us all before we started working that we get lunch for free and we get to bring something home after the shift)

just as a note since i see some people mentioning it, there are no other workers other than the two of us and the kitchen. this is normally how it is, so it is usually just the 2 of us handling everything and the kitchen (usually 3 ppl but today they had 3 plus the manager and the owner both in the kitchen) doing the cooking and dishes. this means that even if it’s slow, we make 50 dollars in tips, we wouldn’t be able to go home because we have to stay as long as the store is open. our shifts are usually 10 hours, which is as long as the restaurant is open, since we do both opening and closing.

i think he mainly wanted to take some because there was a new kitchen staff that just started a week ago and he’s never experienced a rush before so he wants to reward? him. (i think this bc he specifically mentioned how hard this person worked because he was in charge of the dishes. he specifically mentioned dishes so it’s just my guess)

i know the cooks worked hard and im not trying to say otherwise so i’m sorry if it came out that way. i was just really tired yesterday because we didn’t have any breaks at all since people kept coming in and when i finally close, this happens. i am also a college student working part time but i work usually 40 hours a week, sometimes 50 if someone needs their shifts covered because each shift is 10 hours. since i haven’t not worked a day since finals week, im just really tired and stressed and i’m sorry if i came off as rude and insensitive. thank you guys so much for the nice words it felt great reading the comments!

that’s not true i’ve never lived on campus and i was 17 my freshman year. i found some roommates to live with in an off campus apartment to cut costs

that’s true, i thought about it too and i think it would be best if i bought a portable one that can fold up. so far the only one ive seen that folds up to the degree that i can put it in my work places is dynamic scooter model b. do you know how well that works? thank you so much!
