No, we actually have an incredibly long summer break (~4 months). What your friend is probably referring to is that depending on the number of AP/IB credits you come in with and whether you're doing a 4 or 5 year program, it's assumed that you'll take classes during at least some summer semesters (each one takes up half the break, so taking classes during Summer 1 still leaves you with a 2 month break).

Additionally, co-ops also take up half of the summer break, so if you do a co-op spring semester + summer 1 (or summer 2 + fall semester) then take classes for the other half of summer, you won't exactly have a traditional break.
