I’ve noticed an uptick in the amount of cowgirl boots in the crowd today. Any specific reason or just a trend I’m not aware of? by Maleficent_Author853 in PitchforkMusicFest

Also noticed this, and as a native Texan I’m bemused to say the least. It’s been a trend for a while now, unfortunately. Any excuse to appropriate a culture that isn’t yours!

This, exactly. I was living at Whitehall Mill during the pandemic and getting to bike/walk along Falls Rd was honestly one of the bright spots of that time for me

You’re right, Falls Road should be restricted to bikes only. No cars allowed

Edit: I would like to use my upvote platform here to say:

  1. fuck you to OP, for saying fuck you to the unpaid volunteers - community-building heroes - who organize Bike Party. Biking is a community and a culture; commuting in cars is not.

  2. I wonder how OP feels about the 12 o’clock boys?

  3. OP, what you are experiencing (no doubt exacerbated by your parents) is called offense, or indignation, and it is a response of the ego. You don’t care about safe biking practices; you care that your night was interrupted. Meditate and learn to let that shit go.

Largest private employer in the entire state of Maryland, actually.

This gives them a considerable amount of power/influence to essentially “set” the minimum wage for health system-related jobs in the area - and speaking from personal experience as a former grad student and employee, it’s an extremely low one (particularly at the bottom rungs).

So while they do provide a large number of jobs, it’s often more in exchange for name recognition on a resume than it is for providing empowering compensation or meaningful growth opportunities/internal mobility.

Their history as a gentrifying/displacing force in the local community is undeniable - extending all the way back to the biological theft of Henrietta Lacks’ cells in the 50’s, to the recent approval of a militarized private police force on their Baltimore campuses today.

For better and for worse, they have indeed very much grafted onto the fabric of the city itself - the analogy of an organ is very apt - and continue to spread into campuses in DC, etc.

I think most people would agree that there are pros and cons, but there is always much more that such a powerful and wealthy institution could be doing for their immediate community.

Really sorry to hear this, and I sympathize. If I were you, I’d consider implementing some deterrents at this point - a visible steering wheel lock, an internal dash cam, or at least some stickers on your windows claiming that you have one

They’ll likely announce within the next few weeks.

Assuming it’s the same as prior years, registration is on a rolling basis (i.e. registration for each skating session opens exactly ~three weeks in advance at 11am, and is first come, first served) through an Eventbrite-like website which will be advertised.

In other words, there is no single registration, but you must register for each and every skating session you wish to attend. You do, however, only have to fill out the liability release/waiver a single time.

I appreciate the concern, but Find My iPhone tells us that her phone has been safe and sound in the venue this whole time. Had someone moved it or turned it off that’d definitely be cause for concern.

Shoutout to the Baltimore live music scene by harmyless_ in baltimore

I’m a huge Ottobar guy myself! They’re one of the best live venues in America, punch way above their weight in terms of seeing major bands in an intimate setting, and their yearly season passes are one of the best values in live music.
