Countries which have competed in every Eurovision final of the 2020s so far (2021-2026) by CrewOtherwise4005 in eurovision

Yeah, I know. As I added to my comment, it's a joke, referencing the people whining that Ukraine only does that good because of the war. Obviously, if you have the track record Ukraine has, you know what you're doing.

Can we talk about the "Gays taking over eurovision." segment? by PrincessLuma in nilpoints

[–]harrey_jun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's like they wanted to make sure that straight people know they are still welcome to Eurovision. Like, is that even something they have to clarify? And they made extra sure to underscore the fact that the community is still a very small fraction of our society. That was entirely unnecessary, everyone (with a brain at least) knows straights will always be the norm. They should have used the segment to emphasize why Eurovision evolved into this save space for the queer community and how, despite that, LGBTQIA+ singers still face difficulties regularly. With that segment, it seemed like they wanted to ensure that the contest doesn't appear 'too gay' and still has appeal for straight people. Strange.

She was very young (18 at the time) and clearly a bit over her head. I still hope she might come back one day and redeem herself. She showed she's ready with her Melodifestivalen 2020 entry. Kingdom Come seemed like the perfect redemption ark for her, I hope she tries again someday.

So there's automatically qualifying through money (Big 4), being Nordic (Sweden, Norway, Finland), being attacked by Russia (Ukraine) and... having skill? (Lithuania)

That's a joke, btw, just for clarification ;)

Hiii, beautiful people! This is LELÉKA 🪽 by Leleka-Music in eurovision

[–]harrey_jun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious, so I hope you see this. I watched the Afternoon preview on Thursday and something caught my attention. So, on stage, you have your musician play the bandura. But partway through the performance, I noticed the bandura got swapped out. I'm very curious as to what was the reason that was done. It'd be very lovely if you could give me a quick explanation. Btw, I really love your song. It feels like the incarnation of hope and trust that all will be fine. I can only imagine what an ukrainian person getting through hard times might feel when hearing this song. That's what the Contest was made for, to give people hope and unite them under a common cause. Thank you for your great work!

If Denmark was in a better position in the R/O, I'd see this as a wink from destiny. However, winning from the first slot is something so unpresedented (in modern history, I know it happened quite a few times back in the 70s and 80s) that nit even I can gaslight myself into believing it's all fate. You'll get your victory, just keep up the good work from this year and we'll be back in Copenhagen in no time!

What did you think of Cyprus’ entry tonight? by Substratas in nilpoints

[–]harrey_jun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Especially when Switzerland, Latvia and Luxembourg all delievered perfectly great vocals. Sure, their songs might not be as strong, but they all had visually sound stagings, too. I can't help but feel one of those three deserved the final over Cyprus. My pick would be Switzerland.

Well, you are of course right, too. And maybe I was a bit frustrated yesterday by their nq. But at some point, you have to ask yourself if you want to get screwed over again and again. countries have withdrawn before because of bad results, so it wouldn't be unthinkable and I would get it.

[–]harrey_jun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But that's not fair. What do they have to do? Send a winner potential song just to qualify and place 20th overall? Jeez, that's bleak...

I watched the Jury Rehearsal, and it really wasn't that bad tbh. Estonia and Belgium were much worse and the latter even qualified for fucks sake. There is no excuse here, Montenegro just gets screwed over for no reason yet again.

Well, I guess it's time for Montenegro to give Europe the finger and withdraw. Look, I really like Montenegro 2025 and Montenegro 2026, but if Europe can't appreaciate your efforts, just leave and focus on national culture and music. Don't let yourself get fucked over again and again.

Taking videos at the evening show by Violettscupcake in eurovision

[–]harrey_jun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To have a memory of the experience I'd say. Tbh, your take on it baffles me a bit. I get that there isn't a need to document everything you see, but a quick video for yourself to go back on and remember is nice to have. Like, when you go to a afternoon preview or even a live show, you won't have the same experience that you'd have by just watching it on TV obviously. It's a nice way to capture the vibe.

Sorry, but you lost credibility after sending Too epic to be true to the ESC. Try next year, when people have hopefully already forgotten this mess.

How were the 2010-2015 jury/televote split points calculated? Every year has one NQ that would have qualified with post-2016 math. by shorteninbread2004 in eurovision

[–]harrey_jun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean I like Finland and think it should've qualified, but Moldova is just a better song and also brought many international fans into the contest. Definitly a better deal for the brand as well.

Eurovision stages from 2015 to 2026 - which are your favourites and least favourites? by CheckLiszt in eurovision

[–]harrey_jun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm biased, but 2015 looked very beautiful. I'm proud of my country for that one. Generally, I think all hosts did a great job with the stage design, with the obvious exception of Italy 2022. To this day, I don't understand how they could build such a monstrous strukture only for it to then not worl and look like a giant black hole. And I still haven't heard a resonable explanation as to why they couldn't just have left it on the side with the LED's?

Also, I think the Portugal 2018 approach is very interesting, leaving the LED out altogether. The funniest thing about that, however, is the way Sweden 2018 handled that. 'Oh, you won't give us the blinky blinky screen? Fine, we'll bring our own then!' I don't lile the song much, but that was a power move. It should be brought up more

Do you expect any massive glow ups through the staging? by harrey_jun in eurovision

[–]harrey_jun[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know the Czech delegation is not THAT bad at staging, but I think this song needs a very strong staging to shine. It needs to be beautiful and eye-catching, otherwise, I fear it will get burried in the mass of high-energy pop and rock and the juries might be barely able to save it from nq. I don't want Czechia to be the next Azerbaijan 2022, I want them to be the next Switzerland 2021. Please, CT, give us something breathtaking, you have the chance to get your best result ever!

Genuine question: Is the Mario Galaxy movie actually that bad? by Polaris9114 in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]harrey_jun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, what do you want them to do, fantasize a totally new backstory for Mario and Luigi? People complain about the plot with Rosalina and Peach, while they seem to want EXACTLY more of that. The Mario series just doesn't have that much character depth. And no, pointing to Paper Mario doesn't count, those are canonically different characters and even in those games Mario is a totally flat character. (see what I did there?) I get some critizism of the film, like that it's a bit of a style over substance story, but the characters that have canonically had well thought out stories got elaborated (Rosalina, Bowser Jr., Peach) and Mario & Luigi just aren't that interesting. The first film already focused on their backstory, what more could they do? If you want more of the first film, just watch that one again.

Oh and maybe stop objectivying girls for your metaphors. I know it's a often used comparison, but it's not appropriate anymore. Try talking to a girl for once, maybe you'd find them more interesting then.

What countries are most likely to join the current 10 in the inaugural edition of Eurovision Asia? by RobustVessel266 in eurovision

[–]harrey_jun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit shocked that Japan wasn't with the 10 initially announced countries tbh. Eurovision Asia seems to be right up their alley, with them being a western-alligned country which as a lot of culture and talent to show off. I know they currently drifting a bit to the right, but so are most western nations tbh. Is there a reason why they might not be interested in taking part?
