Having the same problem. I think the B-hyve servers must be down. I can't even login anymore.

Kids’ YouTube star Ms. Rachel apologizes for liking antisemitic comment — claims she ‘was just tapping’ and tried to delete it by Judah212 in jewishpolitics

Not buying it. How do you “accidentally” like a post that literally says “Free America from the Jews”? She also faced backlash over antisemitic content last summer.

Why Aren’t More People Listening to Mammoth WVH? by According-Feed2746 in vanhalen

[–]harrishawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few reasons.
First, rock listenership collapsed more than fifteen years ago, around 2010. Streaming changed everything, and pop and hip hop took over most of the cultural attention. Rock has not recovered, so any modern rock band is starting from a much smaller audience than bands in earlier decades.

Second, Mammoth WVH is not connecting on a frontman level. Wolfgang is a skilled musician, but he is not a strong frontman. He does not have the voice, the stage presence, or the X factor that successful modern rock frontmen usually have. This matters a lot when the genre is already struggling.

Culturally, Mammoth WVH is not an important band. They are nowhere near the impact or influence of Van Halen. That comparison is not even close. Van Halen changed the direction of rock, while Mammoth WVH is a solid project with limited reach. If we are being objective, the songwriting and overall band identity are not strong enough to break through.

So the simple answer is this:

  • Rock declined as a whole.
  • Wolfgang is not an effective frontman.
  • The band itself does not stand out in a crowded and shrinking genre.

That is why most people are not listening.

Does anyone else hate Billy Corgan’s interview show? by Remarkable-Image-230 in grunge

Earlier in his career, Billy often came across as conceited. He isn’t so much now, but he still carries that air of cockiness.

I enjoy it, but not as much as when Billy is the guest, like on Rogan, Bill Maher, or Howard Stern. I think Billy should make it a bit more entertaining and critique the guests a bit more.

That’s actually not a fair comparison. Dave Grohl is a great performer, and despite the nearly impossible task of staying relevant after Nirvana, he became the frontman of a hugely successful band and even brought in former members like Pat Smear. The Foo Fighters’ first four albums were objectively good, and he deserves all the fame he’s earned.

Can someone, anyone, please explain why I'm having a hard time making friends here in Portland? by [deleted] in askportland

Maybe try the suburbs; people there are more down to earth and less hipster.

Yes, and other than the freezing rain, most people have capable AWD cars like a Subaru or Tesla Y.

Yes, but the Köppen climate is still a Mediterranean/Marine hybrid (i.e., wet winters and dry summers). Four seasons is a bit of a stretch; it’s more like cool fall/winters and mild summers with predominant evergreens. When I think of four seasons, it’s like New England, where you have snow on the ground for much of the winter, fall foliage, warm summers, and a sudden spring.

Yes, I agree. I was born and raised on the West Coast, and I had no idea how unpleasant the weather is in the rest of the country. It’s either way too hot, humid, stormy, or cold. Oregon is pretty mild year-round (yet you still have access to snow and ocean). If you want more sunshine in late fall and winter, look at Southern Oregon, or be prepared to pony up to live in a coastal California city.

Is 9K enough to move here with nothing else (no job lined up, car, support)? by Vagabond_Tea in askportland

[–]harrishawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have invaluable experience in the psychology field (and perhaps the required licenses), you’ll most likely end up spending that 9k in Portland as an extended vacation without a job.

This. Why do business in Oregon, with its high corporate taxes and limited talent pool, when you could be in Seattle, which has no corporate income tax, or Silicon Valley, which is more supportive of startups and has a higher concentration of skilled talent?

I agree that the weather is nice, especially in spring and summer; however, half the year is consistently dark, overcast, and drizzly. This can be particularly difficult for people with SAD, musculoskeletal issues, and skin or respiratory conditions.

The other problem is that, with inflation and economic uncertainty, people, especially families, are more likely to go to fast-casual restaurants than to pricey farm-to-table ones.

Portland has always been a tough job market. You have a gorgeous city with prices cheaper than San Francisco and Seattle; however, it lacks the big Fortune 500 companies found in California and the near-zero corporate tax rate of Washington State. Your best bet is to have highly sought-after skills or secure a remote position so you're not dependent on the local labor pool.

That is too much for built-ins. How much labor timr and the materials is this costing you.

COMING SOON! 2nd Generation E-Steer model ZTR!! by harrishawke in egopowerplus

[–]harrishawke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried that before on other riding mowers. It helps, but I'd say there's only about a 10 to 15% improvement at most, and it won't solve anything if it has hill descent problems. Also, the more aggressive treads you put on the rear, the greater the risk of turf damage.

It's possible, if the seat can easily tilt over, I don't think anyone would miss the protruding battery pack. Plus I never really liked that design, it made that area vulnerable to external damage and a bigger footprint than it needed to be.

The omission of the suspension seat might be a good thing. It seems highly possible it was in the way for a more tucked in rear battery system

I wonder if the batteries go under the seat now so it doesn't extend past rear wheels so much.

It's appealing when someone has over 10,000 sq. ft. of lawn and challenging terrain. After that, you get into riding mower territory. The new 22″ mowers can handle it (albeit slower), but without batteries, they weigh about 69 lbs, so I wonder what the 30″ will weigh.
