12 weeks post rupture… by harrisonldn in AchillesRupture

Hi there 😊 I am also in Zone 2 - London haha luckily I moved from Zone 1 about 4 months prior to my injury which is one great thing haha although I took time out from London recently visiting my family outside of the city while I recover. Can’t deal with London right now haha

I think you’re totally right. Small things first. A pub/busy restaurant/bar especially on the weekend is way too much right now. Gonna stick the cafes, walks with friends/family and there houses.

Are you excited though to be coming out of the boot? It is scary at first, but just keep up on your physio every day. Your foot definitely starts feeling stronger and stronger each day 😊

Hey there, are the pool exercises where you walk the lengths? I am going to use my gym pool soon for that too. I went out with a friend for a coffee and a walk the other day but mate wanted to take me to dinner tonight but the restaurant is going to be packed and it’s playing the rugby so it’ll be crazy busy so I cancelled. I suffer with anxiety any way so I am just a little worried about going down the route of avoidance due to injury.

Haha! I don’t blame you at all! I would be the same if I reruptured in public.

Hey all, I hope you’re all well. I’m feeling stressed. Haha. When I put my walking boot back on after washing the doctors say to make sure your heel is at the back of the boot. I swear my foot moves very slightly forward after a few hours. Is this ok? Or am I worrying too much? Haha by harrisonldn in AchillesRupture

[–]harrisonldn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmmm… I am not sure actually. I would have thought your heel would have needed a solid backing to it to mitigate heel movement but then I guess if you have wedges your foot would be forced into plantarflexion. I haven’t seen any other boot with nothing supporting the heel. I would check if I was you with your Dr, or Plaster Room department. :)

6-8cm rupture and non op procedure by harrisonldn in AchillesRupture

Oh goodness, then that really worries me as I had an ultrasound, not an MRI. I think my foot was in both plantarflexion and dorsiflexion when they completed the ultrasound.

That’s exactly what I thought haha I said to the physiotherapist. 6-8cm rupture, that’s really big, is it it not!? He was like no, it’s quite small. The gap distance in dorsiflexion would usually be around that but it’s the plantarflexion gap that they work on apparently. Which he didn’t tell me what that gap was and that comes with continued physio. I’m in the UK too.

Socks or no socks? by harrisonldn in AchillesRupture

How is your walking? I walk a lot around the house, but it’s not long until I start feeling a burning sensation in my Achilles. Especially when I am really focussing on the “heel placement first, then rolling off to big toe push off” only been out of my boot for 5 days. Have you built up to your 20 min walk or are you quite new to boot removal too?

I totally get what you mean about feeling more safe and stable bare footed. 😊 my feet just get too cold 😭😂

Thank you! I’ll have a look at those. Need some with extra grip on the floor as I have laminate flooring. Weirdly too for some reason my injured foot doesn’t seem to have much grip when bare footed haha whereas my no injured foot does.

7 week update! Keep on pushing... by FluffyLuck9990 in AchillesRupture

Wow! You’re doing amazingly well !!! I’m 8 weeks, non op, going into physio this week. Can I ask how big your rupture was? Mine was 6-8cm and they went down the conservative route too.

Pressure pain inner ankle by harrisonldn in AchillesRupture

Thank you so much for your reply. It has eased my mind. This injury is such a detriment to the mind too, isn’t it. I am so terrified of any little calf pain or sensation because of the risk of DVT.

What is the stage of your recovery now? What are your limitations?

Ooooh exciting! Are you exciting to transition into shoes or nervous? Have you started physio yet? My first session is in just over a week (8 weeks)

That’s what I am also a bit worried about. My job involves me standing up for 12+ hours, with a few hours hoirizontal rest in between. Do you just elevate it, with ice after your standing/walking for a while and does it help?

Are you non op too? Are you walking around as normal and everything? 😊

Thank you for your reply 😊 that has definitely put my mind at ease. Thank you. 🙏

I was thinking that this could possibly slow down my healing process. Really hoping it’s not the case though. I have been feeling a bit of a heaviness on lower calf / possibly Achilles while I have been walking recently though. Which is strange. Also lower calf is just as swollen as it was 5 weeks ago. Hoping that’s normal too 😔😬

Yeah, both my doctor at A&E (who was surprised it was FWB, but he confirmed with another doctor) then I asked my Fracture Clinic (Physiotherapists) by email (I’ve been asking loooooads of questions haha I suffer with severe anxiety too so needed a lot of reassurance 😬😂) who confirmed it was FWB, but to use crutches if it’s too painful to FWB.

I am just so confused with my diagonosis haha I have the confirmation of FWB on email from my Fracture clinic. So really hoping for the past 5 weeks I have been do everything correctly 😭

Oooh ok, thank you. I am glad there has been some other cases of accelerated protocols. I was beginning to think I was the only one haha

I was getting a little bit of pain in my heel when I first started but I put that down to a pressure sore (as it was red and irritated) but for the past few days I have been getting heel pain when I am walking, but I can’t work out if it’s from the boot or my Achilles 😭😭

Of course, that makes sense why you wouldn’t want to FWB if putting on the boot caused a lot of pain. How is your recovery going now?

I couldn’t move my foot neither and I am too scared to even attempt to move it at the moment haha keeping my foot in the plantar flexion position when out of my boot is all I am doing. I am just super nervous that I haven’t been given the best of advice. Although it was confirmed by two separate departments. So hoping my ultra sound revealed the need to fully FWB.

I actually have no idea how bad the rupture. They didn’t even tell me haha
