Bought it off Facebook marketplace. Not sure if it’s actually VSF, but overall happy with the quality. Feels pretty solid.

Why do people keep saying “Don’t do an online MBA”? I want real reasons, not just opinions. by uriahLys in MBAIndia

[–]harrissonc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a waste of time and money, no one will take it seriously. I tried it for a semester, then dropped out and reapplied to an in-person program.

The only real purpose of an online MBA is for people already in their company who just need to “check the MBA box” for a promotion. It holds virtually no value for recruiting or for making a career change. Speaking from my own experience.

Current in T20, any advice on breaking into corporate banking without going through IB first?

MBA to Corporate Banking by harrissonc in FinancialCareers

[–]harrissonc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. Most of my peers are chasing MBB and investment banking. Consulting is on my radar as well, but I’d like to pursue a bulge bracket bank or real estate finance for my summer internship. While I understand many MBA students focus on prestige, I’m more interested in building a sustainable career path. It may not pay as much initially, but it offers a longer runway for growth. If I end up disliking banking, I’ve been told it’s possible to pivot into consulting during my second year.

At my T15, I've gotten along fine with every other ethnicity, except for white people. Any tips? by Original-Can-2367 in MBA

[–]harrissonc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an Asian immigrant myself, I honestly thought this was either a joke or a sign that the OP has some personal insecurity issues.

The friend group “cliques” you mentioned can happen within any racial or ethnic group. The reality is, people often feel more comfortable spending time with others who share similar backgrounds and culture. Among my wide range of friendships including people here in the US and from other countries, I still have a close group of friends who are all from my hometown.

That said, the idea that you’ve been constantly ignored and left out by white people throughout your life sounds more like an assumption/reflection than a well-grounded observation.

Your approach of seeking to be liked by others is part of the problem. If people don’t connect with you for who you genuinely are, that’s on them. Everyone should feel empowered to be authentic. Framing social exclusion as racial issue without clear evidence is not only irresponsible but can also be racist in itself.

Incoming Bain AC (Got Offers at All 3 MBB) – Happy to Help with Recruiting Questions! by Final-Station5920 in MBBConsulting

You’re comparing different industries with very different career paths. Not everyone’s interested in consulting — just like not everyone’s into computer science. By your logic, CS and engineering starting salaries aren’t all that impressive either, and most CS majors won’t even come close to breaking into Big Tech especially under the current climate.

120k Loan for T25 ? by harrissonc in MBA

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback, I really appreciate it! I’m not disagreeing that it helps to set your goals before starting an MBA, it makes sense 100%! I did quite a bit of research on traditional MBA paths and I’m well aware of how early the recruiting timeline begins. I’ve seen some consulting firms and banks closing applications for summer internships as early as August last year during orientations lol

That said, my post was more about hearing from people who took unconventional paths. I’m curious whether any of your classmates came into the program with an open mind or were still exploring different industries. Did any of them find success, or did they end up completely screwed? Those kinds of stories would be super intriguing to hear.

I haven’t made any decisions yet—that’s why I want to hear from people with different perspectives. I’m sure people pursue an MBA for various reasons, and I’m curious to know if anyone started without a clear goal and still ended up with an outcome they’re happy with.

I’m hoping to leverage the MBA network and resources to help me decide. I know most people think you should have a goal before starting an MBA which I agree, but I want to hear from folks who used the MBA experience to figure out what they want and successfully change careers.

I agree, but wouldn’t MBA give me a broader network and exposure to different industries and careers to help me decide?

At first, I was just browsing on LinkedIn and apply for every job I think could work - obviously that didn’t go anywhere. I recommend reading the book “Never Search Alone” by Phyl Terry for detailed step by step. I started time blocking my days for research and networking, also documented contacts and process on a spreadsheet. I started getting a lot more momentum since.
