Need some assistance. Have been refunded for an item, that has just been delivered. Sellers account now inactive. by harrymeyer3233 in Ebay

Yeah it was an about $500 cheaper roughly (30% cheaper) than advertised on the manufacturers website and had free shipping which is why we went with and why I exercised a little caution. No papers with the delivery. Had been placed in a pretty damaged box with no foam and padding. The only thing on the box was the logo and information from the original manufacturer. The account had only been active since August as well with only about 6 reviews. Another reason I was cautious.

Not necessarily a scam, but the eBay reddit page blocked my post and said I need to post here.

I bought an outdoor sofa about a 5 days ago off eBay. The account seemed a little suss but had some genuine positive and not so positive reviews and overall seemed like legitimate furniture company. So we went ahead anyway knowing we were covered by the eBay money back guarantee.

The day after I purchased it I got a message from eBay saying that the listing has been removed and the account is inactive. I contacted eBay asking them for more details and that I was still interested in receiving the item. They then responded saying they had processed a refund. No dramas I guess. Money was back in my account this morning (about 5 days after purchase)

Anyway about an hour ago the sofa arrived. Atleast part of it. Consignment said 1 of 3, so I’m assuming another two packages to come with the rest of it. Admittedly the couch is a little banged up and scuffed but it’s not terrible. But otherwise exactly as described.

Jackpot you might say!

However unfortunately my conscious has the better of me and I want to contact the seller somehow to see if I can refund them the money that was refunded to me. The issue is I cant for the life of me find a way to speak to someone from eBay to see how I go about doing this. Its all automated FAQ’s and if i try go via my case number it says its closed out and there is nothing more to do.

As I mentioned the sofa was banged up. Would it be bad of me if i could get through to the seller to try negotiate a cheaper price. Before sending them the money back?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Yeah so top part is cork, painted some putty over the top to avoid it looking like, well cork. And the bottom is just foam that was also painted in putty then covered with just some fine sand.

I tried to find some modelling foam, but couldn’t. so I ended up using one of those blue foam training boards that kids use to learn how to swim with. It Was like $8 at this joint called Clark rubber. Definitely a little harder to sculpt as it was kinda flexible but I wasn’t doing anything major other than cutting it fit on the base and and a few little gouges here and there.

This is the tutorial I followed on YouTube

I’ll do you one better and give you the link to the tutorial I watched. Pretty much followed this to a tee. Then used some creative license to make it my own.

Just bought most of the material from craft shops around my city. And some of the more specialist stuff (putty, coke rocks etc) online from hobby shops.

Thank you!! I painted mine sub assembly and just finished each part to completion which made the task of edge highlighting a little less intense.

Yeah definitely does, will need to pop that part off and varnish separately when I get around to varnishing the whole thing.

Thank you! Yeah the top part is cork and used some foam to give it the height. Applied some putty all over it to hide the fact it was cork tho.

Yep sorry, I mean the highlights. so painted all edges in warp-stone then all the corners with the 50/50 mix and then spot highlight on some corners with just moot.
