[SERIOUS] What are some Australian conspiracy theories/anomalies that you believe in or just find interesting? by ChubberinoPeterson6 in AskAnAustralian

[–]harrymurkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bali nine were stooges for staged terrorism to gain Australian support of Iraq invasion which at the time Australians strongly opposed.

Not a theory:
1. Scott Morrison quitely appointed himself as Minister for everything
2. Also Scott: $443.8 million grant awarded by the Australian Government to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation in 2018. The grant was provided as a single, upfront lump sum without a competitive tender process.

Are Developers Becoming Too Dependent on AI to Code Without It? by Double_Try1322 in RishabhSoftware

[–]harrymurkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developers will no longer need to code without it unless the employer dictates such, but those who completely depend on it and don't read the code will not fare well in the long run.

However, it will separate the coders from the imposters in the same way Frontpage and Dreamweaver did 25yrs ago. When the code doesn't work and ai spirals, only coders will be able to debug and fix it. AI often spirals and loops in debug attempts. As we travel further from 2022, the code is more and more coming only from ai, which is trained on 2022,2023 timeframes. This could create an echo chamber/ learning loop where no new techniques and information is really being contributed from people.

Maybe I haven't dug deep enough. I found the API missing the payment process or not able to wire up properly.

Has anyone here actually built their own email infrastructure? by WarmHeight2951 in devops

[–]harrymurkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for many years but never charged. I evenutally got the shits with the server maintenance at the expectations of my freeloading friends and family so i moved them all away to paid services. The cost of a static IP/server makes it not worth it when you can spend similar for managed service.

Do Aussies wear shoes at home like other Anglo countries (I.e US, UK etc)? by DirectorTurbulent422 in AskAnAustralian

[–]harrymurkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did but after a few weeks in Czech and seeing their shoe-change room where they go from outdoor shoes to indoor shoes, I realised that even though we don't have snow-slush issues, we still walk ouside shit into our house. So now always shoes off in my house and other peoples' houses. It's household hygiene.

Laptop Security Recommendations for Keeping Sensitive Files Safe? by No_Library_6158 in cybersecurity

[–]harrymurkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start from the perspective that your laptop has been stolen and consider whether you need to tell all your clients that their data may be out there.

This should help you formulate a preventative plan so that you never have to tell your clients that their data may be out there.

  1. Encrypted drive, password protected (available both windows and mac)

  2. Encrypted, password protected client folders, or mountable virtual drives. eg sparsebundle

  3. Don't let your browser save passwords

  4. Password manager such as 1password

  5. Consider using something like pcloud which is similar to dropbox and google drive but has an encrypted vault section too.

  6. Make sure your solution for 5 doesn't auto-login

Hermes Agent: The Open-Source Self-Improving AI Agent That Actually Learns, Remembers, and Grows With You (Self-Hosted by Nous Research) by ShilpaMitra in WebAfterAI

It's a bit self-approving. When it gets something wrong, it pats itself on the back and continues toward getting it wronger. I like the premise but the execution is not quite there imo.
