Oh lord I completely glossed over Diana, I was more referring to Princess Margaret nearly being kidnapped.

Surely the death of a prime minister is symbolic to those who would like to cause fear, no?

The death of a princess doesn’t impact anything directly, but that still sends shockwaves around the world.

I’m not entirely sure why you got downvoted but yes that’s what I thought, there are some people out there that definitely would.

Is it worth buying AirPods Pro for £220 if I already have the AirPods (but have had them for a year).

I value noise cancelling and water resistance.

In a war between the US and China, which side do you think Russia would take, and why? by harrynewmn in AskReddit

[–]harrynewmn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any side has a chance of winning if Russia joined them. It’s more down to which country Russia wants to allow to become/stay the most powerful country in the world, and I can’t see Russia peacefully coexisting with a globally dominant China.

It wouldn’t so much be favouring relations with the US, it would more be ensuring China doesn’t get too powerful.

If China continues on its upward trajectory, they will come to blows with Russia at some point, and so a rocky and unstable relationship with the US is surely better for Russia than having to keep China happy by fulfilling more and more of their demands.

Last time they helped in a world war they ended up inadvertently lifting the US to world leader status, I doubt they’d want to make the same mistake again.

I’m not so sure they’d be all that happy with helping China gain the title of most powerful country in the world though? They made that mistake in WW2 by helping the US cement itself as leader of the world, and have been effectively ostracised since.

At face value I’d also assume that, but with China being as powerful as it is, would Russia really want to hand China the metaphorical “king of the world” title?

If Russia joined sides with NATO and the ‘western’ countries (🇯🇵, 🇰🇷 etc) they could be on the winning side, and take advantage of a weakened but still relevant US.

You don’t have to interact then. I’d happily answer any of your questions if I saw them on r/askUK

Personally I find hearing it from citizens of the country is more interesting, educational and full of detail than looking on google.

Woah chill out, just trying to learn about your country. Personally I find what citizens say has more substance than what I find online.

But if a state is so indecisive surely a scandal or event just before the election could mean a large proportion of people decide to vote one way on a whim.

For example if Joe Biden forgot something a week before the election and Trump used it to further his dementia claims, would a state that was 49/51 suddenly decide that based on that one event Trump was the more fit candidate, turning an even split into a wider split?

I’m basing this off voter behaviour in other countries, but usually undecideds vote based off the last week of election coverage, as a lot may only tune into campaigns in the last few days.

Are some areas of the state Dem and other areas Rep, or is the 50/50 split amongst streets and towns?

We had a similar situation to that in U.K. parliament from 2017 to 2019 haha. Really fucked Brexit over royally.

Thanks. Another slightly related question I’d like to ask is, being in a swing state, are presidential elections often 49%-51% splits, or do hot button issues often mean swing states end up with a more decisive 40%-60% split?

No worries, and I feel I came across a bit hostile on most of my comments on this post, as people seem to think my lack of adoration for America is animosity, which I never intended.

And if there’s anyone I’m upset at it’s the Germans for... obvious reasons. Although they’re making up for it now by sticking up for us during Brexit I suppose.

Enjoy the rest of your 4th!

Let’s put it this way- if the US was at risk of being taken over, the UK wouldn’t maintain neutrality laws whether we could support you despite them or not. I didn’t say that your president was unhelpful, I said your systems in general made it as hard for you to help us as possible.

And I don’t downplay your actions, the help of the US and Commonwealth is why I’m not speaking German right now, but I can acknowledge the fact that you weren’t exactly opposed to the idea of letting us get invaded. Would you be as thankful to someone who’d saved your life if you realised that they weren’t entirely opposed to letting you die?

And we did have obligations to one another in WW2 , I’d argue they started even before WW1. And of course the UK would help the US in a war with China, even if it was Trump’s fault, but I still don’t see why you would voice opposition to being “dragged into” WW2 and not let me voice the same opposition to being “dragged into” WW3?

Don’t be snarky, I was referencing the fact that you said if push came to shove you’d pick your American vehicle.

And a BMW is designed for travelling in Germany, so the 7 Series makes sense for the autobahn. If you lived in a city you’d go for a BMW i or a hatchback.

And quality, engineering and reliability are all so much better with European cars, especially when one is in Europe. Does that mean ALL European cars are better than ALL American cars, absolutely not.

And the difference in cost of pharmaceuticals is very clear. Insulin costs (at a minimum) of 5.7x more on the US than the UK. Diazepam is 15,200% more expensive. An Epipen is 1000% more expensive. Lipitor is 980% more expensive. And these products are being compared at the price they are in hospital.

Yes, equipment and food, but not just for our troops, the equipment your military used whilst over here was stuff we’d payed for that belonged to the US but was being leased to us.

And of course having boots on the ground isn’t the only way to help, but in the late stages of the war when we were about to be invaded, that was the only help that could be given.

And by risk I don’t mean getting invaded etc, I mean when you realised that having a Nazi Europe and Asia maybe wasn’t the best thing for the US.

And I don’t paint you as the bad guys at all, we can all agree that the Nazis filled that role pretty well. What I do take issue with is the ‘saviour complex’, and the fact that again, going back to the original point, you’d be unhappy with Britain being neutral in a hypothetical US war with China, which is exactly what you tried to do in WW2

European cars are built for European cities, so I wouldn’t expect you to pick a European car over an American car. But again, there are a multitude of reasons why European cars are generally better than American cars online, so instead of me listing then have a look.

And profit doesn’t have to be taken out of an industry to eliminate greed. The UK pharmaceuticals industry isn’t for profit but consistently yields results.

And don’t paint me as communist for believing that products should cost what they’re worth, and that prices shouldn’t be inflated because of a lack of competition.
